dash and albert manufactures the Kaffe fassett rugs which this one is. You can buy these rugs on the net. This is a needlepoint rug. I also have susan sargent rugs and love the tuffed wool which lasts longer then needlepoint. But any wool rug holds up better for longer and easily cleaned. Look for sale rugs at suan sargent. She has fabulous sales!

ROUGH UP laminate surface with some sand paper first, doesn't have to be alot, use about 120 grit. Then OIL based high adhesive primer as stated above. Make sure you get a primer that you can cover with water based latex (not heard to find). Then put on your latex paint (I would use exterior which you can get on any color), at least two coats, then lightly sand with 200 grit or so, then water based poly: at least THREE coats with LIGHT sand in between. Make sure each coat sits overnight or at least 24 hours before putting on next coat. It will work!!!! this can all be done with a roller, I would use a foam whiz

and someone suggested in comments on another entry that someone out there has concentrated voting going on for the lesser of the two matchups so give whoever gthat person is an easier chance of winning. Really, I am not paying attention to this contest again, just my two cents. This entry was by far sooo outstanding

Something has got to be wrong! I cannot believe you did not win in the last round! Ridiculous and you lost be a few votes. There is NO WAY the other entry should have won over you. You should have won the whole thing.

Very nicely done and i think the classic Audrey pic is great! Obviously you like her as do I, an icon, and our homes are not showrooms, we surround ourselves with things we love. I have one kind suggestion.....some of your art/pics etc are hung to high. I am not in the room but people tend to hang things too high and it looks like that. Then the piece appears "floating" and not "anchored" on the wall. For instance I think the center piece above the sofa could be much lower which would also break up the straight line with the pics above the lamps. Just try it and you may like it! Hang things at eye level, so the center of the piece is at eye level. Thanks!

Thanks Theo, I agree the trick is being even handed. Philly: Sand outside of tub just to rough it up, roll on a coat of good oil base primer, the kind that allows you to paint over with latex paint and then roll on any color you like. I used 3 shades colors of robbins egg blue and some watery green/turquoise mixed with glaze on top of the solid base coat. Then stencil away. Outside of tubs do not get that wet, especially a roll top tub. if you want you can put on a coat of water based poly. Thanks

A REAL sense of color and how it works. Notice the majority of walls and items are in the same value range thus nothing is too overpowering. How fabulous it all is!!!!! Congrats to the future winner!!!

Hello again:
The main book cases are FILLED to the gils with books and the china is all diffent colors so I wanted it on a white background. The colors all work together b/c no one color overwhelms another. Each room or area has a distinct color and light. But the style is similar. And as I said before the red wall shot was the wrong pic, my mistake! so you cannot see it in context in the living room. The garden changes color every month since I have tons of perennials. What color does not compliment all the colors found in a garden? I never buy something or paint something b/c it matches the garden somehow. I am by no means a professional decorator. AND THIS is the MOST IMPORTANT part for anyone's home: That YOU, not anyone else, LOVE coming home. I love coming home to my own small concrete bunker/art studio!

Forgot, Someone wanted to know where the tub came from. I searched and searched all over the net and finally selected this one from Vintage Tub.
http://www.vintagetub.com/asp/product_detail.asp?item_no=LG60SL7WSIW
There are so many to choose from and varying prices. This was one of the least expensive I could find. You just cannot fit comfortablely into anything less then 60 inches. I looked at used ones but once they are finished and delivered it was almost the same price. The fixtures came from overstock. The chandelier is a small Schonbek I found on the net. The vanity is a sofa back table made by Lexington I also found on the net. There are silvery vine stencils on the walls/ceiling from Stencil Library (tub), Henry Donovan, and Royal Design Stencils. The floors are all a white-washed-wood-looking laminate. Thanks Everyone again.

OH MY GOSH! I just saw this today! Thank you all for the lovely comments! I so WISH NOW I had picked more long shots. The rooms are small and it is hard but if any of you want to see longer/overall shots or have any questions about details, where I got things, how I did anything etc you can email me at cgoldie123@aol.com. I am always happy to help! That red wall was is in the living room and I sent in the WRONG photo! The right photo is a wide shot. I asked them to change it out but I am sure they do not have time. The dining area/kitchen/living room are all connected in one narrow room. The room with the yellow flowers (stencils are from Stencil Library on the net) is the family room which at one end of the house. I think it was a garage conversion. The house is the shape of a shoe box with flat roof and all concrete walls built in 1963, done in one pour. I call it the concrete shoe box. Over the years I have changed every single-pane aluminum window. That is the hall bath I re-did and had that big window put in. I waited 20 years for my clawfoot tub under a window. The bathroom is only 55" wide and about 9 feet long. The tub is 60" so I had an alcove cut into the wall at the faucet end to make it fit. Do you know there is about 6" between most walls?! Anyway, sorry no wider shots and THANK YOU ALL for the wonderful comments! I am sooo honored since there are so many fabulous entries!

I think this entire wall could be absolutely beautiful with no tear out or major additions. But whatt is your style? Traditional? do you want to keep with a craftsman look? Do you like color? If you want some suggestions from me please let me know at goldieniner@yahoo.com. Or post here. Thanks!

Love it! And there is nothing better then Porter's Paints! The colors are incredible and the quality excellent. They use so much pigment. I have the Interno "blooming" in my home in many rooms and on wood. It will NOT come off at all. I get Porters from Cox paint in LA. I call them up and they send it to me the very same day. I have their fan decks which are real
brushes of the color. And by the way, Cox can mix Interno in any of the Porter's colors. I am buying a jigsaw! How did you do those small cutouts??? Special blade?

Thank You Anh-Minh, That is exactly right! I have two of the green bolster pillows and the french chair that I am sitting in is in front of my fireplace in the same room! And yes, the room is long and narrow so you see the front and then the back of the chair. I took all the pictures which is very difficult! It took about 200 shots to get about 15 decent picks. Every little thing shows up. I did not crop or enhance/change/mess with any of the photos. I am so honored to have my room recognized again here on apartment therapy. And Anh-Minh's article in the SF Chronicle was just terrific. She came to my home and interviewed me for over an hour so you get more of a flavor for my vision. Certainly if I had more money many things would be different but I worked within my budget. I love my zero clearence gas fireplace (the heat source for the room) and built the surround myself. My first construction project! Thanks again

My oh my, I have some beautiful stuff and I like to look at my stuff. I am not one to hide away my beautiful china I collect. The china plates on the shelves in small dinning area are from my trips to Paris.
I have a small house, one story, long and narrow. It is VERY lived in but for God's sake if a person is coming to interview me and maybe take a couple photos I do clean it up. If I had known the pics of other unfinished rooms were going to be posted I would have cleaned up even more and re-arranged some things.

I do LOVE that chaise. I found it on the Lane Venture website and ordered it myself from a North Carlolina furniture place with a deep discount. LV has numerous colors (and I mean COLOR, not just another wood finish) you can choose for their furniture finishes. I sent them my fabrics instead of using theirs. The Fireplace, chaise and desk are all in the living room which is quite small.

Yikes! I was not sure these would get posted so just a couple comments from me, Catherine. First, Thank You Anh Minh for your comments! Very Kind of you.

But nothing is finished in the other areas of the house! The photograph in the hall (and hand painted/pasteled frame around it) was never intended to "match" the wall in any way. I love the photo and thought it looked just fine against the apple green "interno" lime wash (by Porter Paints). The hall color absolutely does not photograph well although this is a good one! I myself have tried and tried. It is a bright, saturated color that changes and glows in the natural light. Right now I am nuts about this interno lime wash product. The matting is not done on the photo so justice not done to it yet.

The fabric on chaise in living room is also apple green ultra suade, much brighter then pic. And the desk "nook" has been further demolished. The fireplace surround is being updated with new moasic tile called "jazz" which has not arrived yet and the mantel and frame around mirror to be painted another color and the stuff on the mantel was temporary. The entire house is being updated to a more modern look! (as I get older I want things to look younger!)

As for the bedroom sitting area, I love a mix of old and new which yes, I copied from designers. I think the ottoman adds a classic but modern touch.

Anyway, thanks so much for the comments and if you have any questions just let me know.
