We had similar experiences to others who have posted. We had great variety the first year, less the second, and a very disappointing third year in terms of variety and quality. Then the whole farm went bankrupt and everyone found out after the fact about the financial turmoil the owners were in. A very expensive proposition for the privilege of spending hours prepping veggies so that they'd last through the week. On the other hand, I did end up incorporating new vegetables into our diet that I'm not sure I'd have tried on my own. If the farm had been able to maintain the quality of the first year, I'd have been much happier.

What To Do with \"Tacked-On\" Room? Good Questions

Could you use the added on entertainment space the additional (guest) bedroom/office and the third bedroom a small family room? As long as you don't have a pool table in there it might be nice to have a cozy family room (for t.v. viewing or as a children's play space) and a large home office/guest room. If you have kids, maybe you could turn the entertainment room into a shared bedroom, freeing up the two small bedrooms for other uses.

Yes, let's all read one person's opinion as an outsider in another culture as the bible for how we should feed our kids. And of course it's always the parents' fault, particularly the moms out there if they have a picky eater.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have one picky eater and one who is willing to try lots of things. The only people I know who have food issues as adults are the ones who were forced to eat everything on their plate.

Doesn't feel like a home at all. So stylized it's sterile.

A fruit tart with almond crust.
Baked oatmeal squares.

If you don't want to bake gluten free, but don't mind providing gluten products to guests, then bagels with cream cheese, lox, and jams are great.

We've had our billys for ten years without any warping, just loose backs. Maybe they used to be better constructed?

Ha! i bought some planted tulip bulbs at the grocery store yesterday to put on the coffee table. Things were looking a little bare after the Christmas decorations came down. It feels great to have completed one part of the assignment early!

I love how clean and open your space looks. The artwork really pops! I also love the sectional sofa. Where did you get it? I disagree with the comments about moving the furniture away from the walls....why oh why? In certain spaces, the couches have to go against the wall due to a narrow or tiny room. For many people, it's much more livable to have space to move around in than a cluster of furniture taking up the middle of the room. I have little kids, and we value having the couch against the wall (have you had a toddler dive off the back of a couch onto tiled floor? I have... plus an open area in the middle of the room really gives them space to play). It reminds me of the conversation about the internet pushing people to decorate their home for the public's eye vs. for yourself. After all the talk about "curating" and decorating for what looks best for the camera, it's great that someone with actual experience curating (as the director of an art gallery) made her own home look so comfy and liveable through the use of art, and definitely not "curated."

Does anyone else have trouble sleeping when their spouse/significant other is away? I do. We just seem really in sync with each other. Maybe this sort of thing works if you've never shared space together and gotten used to it. Any compromises made in sharing bedrooms/bathrooms/living spaces are definitely worth it/not that big a deal when I think about the intimacy we share. Also, I like that our children see our family as one unit that works and lives together. Separate living spaces might negate that idea.

Apezalla, Mshatelaine, and Sauermama, thanks for posting about your experiences with picky eaters. I am frustrated every day by my youngest (age 5) especially since I go through so much trouble to prepare fresh foods for my family. I just keep trying new things, and I have a handful of healthy muffin recipes where I add veggies, and I hope for the best. My son would definitely turn food into a major power battle if I drew an ultimatum about what he could or couldn't eat. He's surrounded by lots of healthy choices and variety, but if he just wants pasta with cheese and a pear for four nights in a row, so be it.

I love your post AIRGREENWOOD, especially your last two sentences. Maybe having children forces you to search for that perfect combination of functionality and pleasantness. I know that feeling overwhelmed by baby gear/ toys led us to go through all of our belongings and purge a ton, and really think about how we were living.

I love the chair colors, but the kitchen as a whole reminds me of a very clean mechanic's shop. I think it's the overwhelming shine of the floor and the tile.
