Good advise. I, too, have been "hosed" by making an emergency call to a plumber with a large ad in the Yellow Pages. First rule of thumb is to keep your head and don't panic. A cool head will help you to make reasonable decisions in an emergency. Tips & Advice: Don't Get Hosed on Home Repairs |

OK, yes, this is a petty little snark. However, people, it is NOT "in tact"....it is ONE WORD. INTACT. It seems that everyone under the age of 30 thinks this is two words. Egad. The Daily Scavenger: Southern Edition 11.01.11 |

Moonshine Lampsade company does excellent MCM reproductions. I had them create a pair of rectangular shades for my MCM marvels. I highly recommend them. Recommend Lamp Shade For Vintage Lamp? Good Questions |

Actually, if you paint it a shade up the color ladder lighter [use the next chip lighter on the paint chip], it will work well.. The last poster was on the right track...adding molding, or gimp, or trim of some kind will open the ceiling back up. Matching Ceiling Paint: Design Do or Don't? |

Anything with a very tight-weave microfiber fabric. The weave is too tight for the cats to get their claws into, and the fabric is very easy to clean. I have 3 cats and my microfiber sofa from Scandinavian Design has held up well. I wish I could say the same for my two leather chairs. :-( I won't be making that mistake again. I am one of those people that don't have the luxury of having my desk anywhere but my bedroom. My solution was to use an armoire, where I can shut the doors on my computer and separate work from living. Bedroom Desks: Yay or Nea |

I'm with you, alllebasii. That was the first thing that caught my eye. Pretty sure I wouldn't want to deal with the grunge there. The rest of the room looks fabulous, though! Before & After: A Beautiful Bathroom for $439 This Old House |

I am leaving at 6 am Friday for PS....a trip I have been planning for over a year. I took the back seats out of my car so that I would have room to bring back all the great stuff I know I'm going to find at the show and shops. Looking forward to spending 4 solid days immersed in fab design. The Best of Modern in Palm Springs City Guide |

I am going, and I am staying at the Orbit In!!! I have been planning this trip for over a year, and I am so EXCITED, I can't stand it!!! I've taken the back seats out of my PT Cruiser so I have lots of room to bring back all those great MCM things I just know I am going to find. 10 Inspiring Palm Springs Hotels |

It's interesting that the first bullet points out the rug needs to be easy to clean, yet four of the ten recommend professional cleaning. That may technically be easy to clean [after all, you only need to make a phone call], but it surely isn't in the affordable category! High Style Kitchen Mats and Rugs Roundup |

I've found that custom stickers for something of length to be cost-prohibitive, at least for my budget. I got creative, using overhead transparency sheets on which I printed my quote. Using an X-acto knife, I cut out the stencils. I then taped the sheets together to make the stencil one sheet. You can get stencil paint and adhesive [for attaching the stencil to the wall] from any craft stores. The result was exactly what I wanted at a cost of less than $20. This has long been one of my favorite lines of furniture. It's the Brasilia line, made by Broyhill in the early 60's. If you search on Brasilia on craigslist, the pieces do come up on occasion, and sometimes at fantastic prices.

My solution was to use a set of clear test tubes and rack from a scientific supply house. Plenty of room for all my different spices, and I can see them all. Labels printed on clear stickers help me if I can't remember which spice is which. The added advantage is that I can even store my liquid flavorings in them [vanilla, almond extract, etc.]. I am oh so glad to hear I'm not the only one that thinks this way....my friends think I'm nuts for changing things all the time. If I wasn't constantly tweaking my home, I am sure it would feel stale to me in short order. The Finished Home: Knowing When It's Done |

Looking at the accompanying picture, I've got to say that I surely couldn't have afforded an Aeron chair, a George Nelson lamp, or a flat-screen TV for my first apartment! LOL! I had a dilapidated old Salvation Army sofa covered with a bedsheet, milk crates for tables, and sisal "carpet" I bought at Pier I for $10, and was happy with that.
