thank you for covering this apt, we're are quite proud of it! to answer your question, the panel is off-center because there is an hidden bracket that permits it to swing 90 degrees so that people can sit on the built-in sofa and watch tv. in oder to be able to do that, we needed that space on the side. what you see there is the "rest" position. hi, this is stefan. i just wanted to drop in to tell you that we bought this swing at the time when we still had the store and it was by a parisian design duo called resodesign (http://www.resodesign.com/) they had a fantastic collection at the time, none of which appears on their current website. the only similar thing that comes to mind is the bubble chair (http://hivemodern.com/products/?view=sub_product&sid=217&cid=39&cid2=155) but it's pretty pricey. hope that helps!
