I share, because I've always appreciated being able to find on open wifi when travelling, to check email or get directions. If it was being abused I would eventually notice and turn sharing off, but it hasn't been a problem so far.

If you go to the original "Eleanor's new bedroom" post and look at the "detailed list of sources", you will find a footnote that says "*Provided by the Land of Nod". So I'm pretty sure she was compensated for the design.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. It looks like what it is, brass bits glued to a plain dresser. Why reinforce the drawer corners? It's not strengthening anything, that's a solid(ish) piece of wood. What could possibly damage those corners that wouldn't first separate the whole side of the dresser or rip the drawers off their tracks?

I know we're supposed to be nice now, but I'd hate to see Campaign furniture be the equivalent of all the stupid steampunk projects that were a fad for a while. Campaign furniture really is quite attractive, but the form mostly follows from the function. This looks like you read the assembly directions for a cheap dresser wrong.

Seems like a much more rewarding hobby than shoe collecting, which is a pretty frequent topic on this site.

This is confusing. Is the desk laser cut or made with a jigsaw and an overhead projector?

I find the big "MANGE" sign very unappetizing. If they hadn't painted the brick maybe they could have bought a diacritic.

It seems funny to call these reproductions. Haven't Shakers been producing this style of furniture pretty much continuously for many years?

Do they have a site for that other kind of parent? What are they called? Dang, it's right on the tip of my tongue... you know, the ones with dangly bits. It'll come to me in a minute.

I love these lists, because there are so many bad kids books it's nice to have some guidance at the library.

Some of my daughter's favorites are
"Do you have a hat?" by Eileen Spinelli,
"Raindrop plop" by Wendy Cheyette,
"Contrary bear" and "Bunny bungalow" by Cynthia Rylant,
"The relatives came" by Cynthia Rylant and Stephen Gammell,
"Little bear" by Maurice Sendak, although the one with the little girl weirds me out for some reason.
Any of the James Marshall readers: "Three up a tree", "Fox on stage"...
"The Stupids die" is my favorite one for slightly older kids (daughter is 4).

There's a good article about this kind of repair on Norse Woodsmith. You can use regular glue instead of hot hide glue of course, and sand instead of scrape if you'd rather. For matching the finish, they make pens now that would do a decent job.

This is a pretty quick job for a restorer, so you might ask one for a quote, or just for advice and supplies.

I should add that any list of miserable cities that does not include Houston, Texas is pretty suspect.

I visit family in the Chicago suburbs somewhat frequently. Of Chicago proper, I really like the train system, the museums, the park system and the universities. The suburbs are kind of depressing, like everywhere. On the drive from the airport you see the same mini-mall about 20 times. I really really really dislike the tollroads on holidays -- 50 bazillion cars creeping along at 2 mi/hr. I guess the ezpass works well most of the year, but not on holidays.

Your bf is right on this one. The chairs look great. It's surely bad karma to take wood and make it look like plastic. Maybe you could paint your table or put a rug under it.

Sigh. Love the couch, but Nashville's craigslist never has anything like it. Lots of shabby chic, though, and the occasional shabby sheik.
