based on the thickness of the frittata in the photo, and the rounded edge, couldn't you make this in one less dish by cooking it all in a cast iron skillet? or is it really enough that it needs a larger pan?

I can't believe you didn't re-feature your post about the Melissa Clark recipe, Sexy Broccoli! great for those who like it crisp - very similar to an acid "cooked" kale salad.

The second recipe here, Sweet Quinoa Pilaf, is outstanding, and endlessly variable depending on what nuts, seeds, and dried fruit I have on hand. I do use regular coconut milk and it doesn't make it too rich. Also great reheated all week.

Also, any kind of dal is a great hot breakfast.

Northeast Ohioans should check out Willoughby Brewing Company's Peanut Butter Cup Coffee Porter - it's outstanding, and a bit different from your normal coffee stout options.

foodefafa - anywhere with a bulk spice section should have these - I get them at one particular Whole Foods, and my co-op has them.

I scored a couple of square one-button floor pillows from the Crate & Barrel outlet a couple of years ago - I'd think any place like that or TJ Maxx or maybe even Home Goods would be your #1 option for the low-end of these.

never ceases to amaze me the ignorant comments posts like this can draw.

of course, I think we all know it's "just stuff", but also, I know plenty of people who would not be able to replace a $500+ television, $200 iPod, $100 DVD player, $400-1200 laptop, $300 Xbox, $300 stereo receiver, DVDs, etc all at once -- even with homeowners insurance there's a deductible. the lovely price you get to pay for being the lucky one the thieves chose. which then obviously leads to the feeling of violation to the whole act.

I'm in Chicago, too, and while I don't live in fear of this kind of stuff (because I have plenty of other things to worry about), it really is a big problem and there have been plenty of break-ins in my neighborhood over the past two years. I'm sure it's very nice if you live out in the country or in a small town where no one has to lock their doors, blah blah blah, but that's not everyone's reality so please don't come here posting with the attitude like you've got everything figured out.

Oy vey. Humidifiers are a necessary expense in a lot of rentals, but if you're renting, you can't exactly justify $150 on a humidifier, no matter how beautiful (especially since I suspect they won't last for the 10 years I'd want them to for that price!)

That said, I'd be interested to know how well the wood evaporative ones work. A neat idea for sure, perhaps a future DIY project?

Like a couple of others, I'm in the Sanita camp - better quality since Dansko moved their production to China, while Sanita continues to manufacture in Denmark and Poland. I got a pair of orange sandals on clearance and am dying for spring to wear them!
(Also, if regular Zappos prices scare you ,it's because they never go on sale, they go to 6pm.com, their clearance site.)

But truly, I find myself wearing my Birkenstock Boston clogs in the kitchen the most - great support, and they're not noisy. If I wore my Sanita clogs around the house all the time my downstairs neighbors would hate me!

I've roasted beets in an oven-safe Pyrex bowl, and just covered that with aluminum foil. I wonder if using a small dutch oven, or something with a heavy/well-fitting lid would be a good option? Agreed that any of these foil or parchment paper methods seem pretty wasteful, especially if you love beets!

re the art suggestion, depending on where you want to hang it, you might want to make sure it's nothing too valuable (much like hanging art in the bathroom). you've shown/suggested pictures behind glass as backsplashes behind a stove before, and that's been a neat look.

to everyone complaining about the negative/"ugly"/whatever comments in response, how would you pronounce "Schite" as written in the review? because I'd pronounce it a lot like the British pronounce the word sh*t! so the review started off with a jab at Crystal Light, which is the same freakin' type of product! I find it hard to believe that everyone's world is so full of light and goodness that they're soooooooo offended and ashamed that so many REGULAR readers responded with distaste for this review.

as for the defensiveness of the editors/author, I agree they should defend themselves if there's something to defend, but let's be reasonable. sarah rae, I don't think anyone is saying they *never* have a Cheeto or grab a bag of Skittles, but you've also got to be able to understand that a review for this type of product is [traditionally] way out of place on this website. no, you never call it healthy, but re-read your first sentence! "for health reasons..." basically, it's full of contradictions, and people called you out for it. try and understand what your readers are upset about, and learn from it, improve your writing.

Product Review: MiO Liquid Water Enhancer

I was amused that the author bitched about not liking Crystal Light and then continued to endorse this product that is pretty much exactly the same (artificial sweetener/water flavorer). and worst of all, it's a Kraft product.

but I also agree with the other commenters who find not only this product unappealing, but also at/thekitchn's willingness to review said product. maybe because we look to this site for something different that we didn't know about - a real alternative. this is more of the same that I'd expect to see reviewed in a fluffier publication, like a local newspaper.

cute. too bad that cinnamon pull-apart bread appeared on joy the baker first (which, thankfully, that blogger at least credits).

I have the Cuisinart stick blender with attachments (whisk, mini chopper) and I love love love it. I use it mostly for the immersion blender, but the mini-chopper is nice when you have something little to blend rather than hauling out the larger food processor, and the little whisk and cup are PERFECT for making whipped cream.

And to all dumping on the toaster ovens - what @foodefafa said - I'm likely getting one soon because I'm on the 3rd floor of a 3-flat in Chicago and it gets unbearably hot up here in the summer so much so that I never bake awesome cobblers with the fantastic summer fruit 'round these parts. Toaster oven ftw!

I just close mine in my cabinet door - it has those little stopper sticker things (so the doors don't slam), and if you get the paper between that and the cabinet it just hangs there nicely. Of course this only works if your cabinets are next to your stove like mine.

The only problem with these is that they are $3.99 while the pea shoots are $2.99; can't justify paying $4 for a small package of microgreens that will last for maybe two meals. =(
