re the art suggestion, depending on where you want to hang it, you might want to make sure it's nothing too valuable (much like hanging art in the bathroom). you've shown/suggested pictures behind glass as backsplashes behind a stove before, and that's been a neat look.

to everyone complaining about the negative/"ugly"/whatever comments in response, how would you pronounce "Schite" as written in the review? because I'd pronounce it a lot like the British pronounce the word sh*t! so the review started off with a jab at Crystal Light, which is the same freakin' type of product! I find it hard to believe that everyone's world is so full of light and goodness that they're soooooooo offended and ashamed that so many REGULAR readers responded with distaste for this review.

as for the defensiveness of the editors/author, I agree they should defend themselves if there's something to defend, but let's be reasonable. sarah rae, I don't think anyone is saying they *never* have a Cheeto or grab a bag of Skittles, but you've also got to be able to understand that a review for this type of product is [traditionally] way out of place on this website. no, you never call it healthy, but re-read your first sentence! "for health reasons..." basically, it's full of contradictions, and people called you out for it. try and understand what your readers are upset about, and learn from it, improve your writing.

Product Review: MiO Liquid Water Enhancer
3/29/11 3:52 PM

I was amused that the author bitched about not liking Crystal Light and then continued to endorse this product that is pretty much exactly the same (artificial sweetener/water flavorer). and worst of all, it's a Kraft product.

but I also agree with the other commenters who find not only this product unappealing, but also at/thekitchn's willingness to review said product. maybe because we look to this site for something different that we didn't know about - a real alternative. this is more of the same that I'd expect to see reviewed in a fluffier publication, like a local newspaper.

cute. too bad that cinnamon pull-apart bread appeared on joy the baker first (which, thankfully, that blogger at least credits).

I have the Cuisinart stick blender with attachments (whisk, mini chopper) and I love love love it. I use it mostly for the immersion blender, but the mini-chopper is nice when you have something little to blend rather than hauling out the larger food processor, and the little whisk and cup are PERFECT for making whipped cream.

And to all dumping on the toaster ovens - what @foodefafa said - I'm likely getting one soon because I'm on the 3rd floor of a 3-flat in Chicago and it gets unbearably hot up here in the summer so much so that I never bake awesome cobblers with the fantastic summer fruit 'round these parts. Toaster oven ftw!

I just close mine in my cabinet door - it has those little stopper sticker things (so the doors don't slam), and if you get the paper between that and the cabinet it just hangs there nicely. Of course this only works if your cabinets are next to your stove like mine.

The only problem with these is that they are $3.99 while the pea shoots are $2.99; can't justify paying $4 for a small package of microgreens that will last for maybe two meals. =(

I have one round and one square set of Pyrex storage containers, and random plastic/Tupperware/Gladware containers. When the plastic ones wear out, they will be thrown away and likely eventually replaced with glass.

I mostly use the plastic ones to freeze stock, or make salad dressing; I try to avoid using the plastic ones to reheat something.

That said, I'm also finding canning jars to be a nice storage alternative in the cupboard (though I have my flours in old yellow tupperware and new OXO pop-top containers).

And on the water bottle tip, I've switched to Kleen Kanteen (stainless steel) and have been nothing but satisfied - I currently lug it to the gym, and plan to use it on my bike once the weather gets just a little warmer...

with the door open, can you get through the hallway? (I'm assuming this is where these are in most Chicago apartments, which is the hallway!)

writing recipes should be incredibly easy: list the ingredients in order of use, if you need to preheat the oven make that the first step, and then proceed with the rest of the directions in either numbered or broken out into paragraph form. when you've finished writing the recipe, re-read to see if it makes sense and if you've included all steps; then give the recipe to someone else to read to be sure.

as others stated above, if it's X quantity, divided, please tell me I need Y quantity and Z quantity reserved.

but also most importantly, you the reader need to read through the entire recipe first, to make sure none of these things are missing. if they are, jot notes on your printed recipe. there's one site (*cough*seriouseats*cough*) that routinely has VERY poorly written recipes - in these cases, don't be afraid to post corrections as you're likely not the only one confused by a missing step or ingredient.

Patron makes an orange liqueur that is just as good as Cointreau but much cheaper! ($20/bottle here in Chicago)

I have an older version of the IKEA one and have had no problems; I couldn't justify spending $30 on one anyway, as much as I love my other OXO products.

microwave timer (I rent, so my oven doesn't exactly have an easy-to-use functional timer, but my personal microwave does!)

for doing laundry, I use the timer on my iPhone. ;)

the ones at Anthropologie (which appears to be what's pictured) seemed so cheap in person, and is one more thing to clutter the fridge. growing up, we used one of those round white plastic ones that kind of came to a point on top, I always liked it.

as others have said, this runs contrary to every other "how to make sprouts at home" piece I've ever read. others you rinse 1-2x daily and leave moist in the jar, not immersed in water. I can't imagine this method is a good idea as the weather gets warmer...

what panda cakes said - if you LOVE salad, $4 at Costco will buy you a package that's maybe 3x the grocery store package - it's Taylor farms or something, the same brand they're selling in the clamshell at Target these days (in Chicago, at least).

Have the Cuisinart one with the multiple changeable pieces, and I love it. And I just saw today that with some $10 mail-in rebate, it's $20 at Costco. So there you go, no excuses (unless you have no space I suppose?)
