A Riot of Color and Texture in Melbourne HomeLife

Love the tip about putting cash in your phone case - I'm def doing that!

Many Years ago, before wipes were so readily available, my mum would pour disinfectant into a canister of 'wet ones' wipes, and we'd take them when we went trekking in Nepal.

When we renovated our bathroom, we had to say goodbye to the laundry 'chute' the previous owners had installed (Brilliant design - on opening, one of the drawer fronts had an angled bottom that emptied into a cupboard in the adjacent laundry)
We didn't have space for a laundry hamper in the new design, so I had a lightbulb moment, and turned one of the shelves in the bathroom cabinet into the dirty clothes section. Bottom shelf has clean towels, top shelf has dirty laundry. It just means that there isn't undies and socks on the floor, and it's never in there long enough to get smelly, as every day or so I just empty into the bedroom hamper as I carry it on the way to the Laundry.

Ooh nice. For those in the US - you could use a freight forwarder. I'm in Australia and not much gets sent down here. Have used freight forwarders with much success from both the States to here and also from the UK.
Am I allowed to put a name I've used? Www.borderlinx.com.

Hey, 'Ashley from The Broken Word ' thanks for that link - what great sites!.

I just did the hugest declutter in my home office - a whole filing cabinet of paper was reviewed - realised didn't need more than half of it so it was shredded and what was left was scanned on my little kaiser-bas. The two drawer filing cabinet now holds office supplies, and only 5 manila folders of paperwork. Losing the paper felt so good!

We had the same kind of hoopla over here in Australia with Stella McCartney for Target (same name, same logo, but different Target company I think). Loads of people lining up early, grabbing everything, flogging it on ebay... A few weeks after it all went on sale, I went in and there was a clearance rack up the back of the clothes section with some of the stuff. Poorly made, weirdly fitting. Not at all worth the hype..
Saying that though, I'd love one of the missoni towels!

I was witness to a prep kid knocking out a toddler yesterday afternoon with their backpack!. It was exactly like above, totally unaware of the size of their backpack, and thwack - a quick spin around and the littlest one was on the ground in tears!. These are the standard size school issue backpacks - they are huge! - and none with wheeled options.
I'm in Australia, and they have school backpacks as part of the uniform.

My daughter received this for her birthday - it is exactly like whats in a diaper/nappy.
Its got the gross factor for kids, but its not actually that much fun to have a bath in.
The kids said 'this is actually pretty gross, I don't think we'll do this again'!
I think its better in a tub for hands to squish in rather than your whole body in it. And yeah, at 12 bucks a pop its pricey.
There's another sachet of something that comes with it that you're supposed to sprinkle on it to dissolve it when you're finished - but we just used a hand shower to flush it down the plug. Its not too bad to clean up, just leaves the crystals everywhere, and a few goes to actually get them all down the plughole.

How very sweet!
I built (with the help of my dad!) a frame around some peg board and installed it on the inside of my daughters wardrobe doors. It's been great for hanging up hair ribbons and hats and bags - all sorts of girly paraphernalia! It keeps it organised and out of site - but looks great when she opens the doors.

I love the hall cupboard/light box, and the rest of the house.
I also love a house tour with captions with the pictures - its so much nicer to read about the room as you are actually looking at it
(And Blandwagon when I had my baby I had a double bed in hospital - so my husband could stay with me - I'm in Australia!)

I was wondering - why don't you have a doona cover (duvet - I'm from Australia). I've seen a few house tours that don't have doona covers - is that an American thing?
THanks!
(Love your place by the way!)

I do get what the poster is trying to stay - in that loads of the party pictures going around the internet seem to have the following;
*labelled water bottles
*cupcake labels
*a dessert table where everything is colour co-ordinated

They do look beautiful though, and I think having great photos for your kids to look back on is an awesome thing - and I'm sure the kids wouldn't mind if they weren't there. But as a mum I love to do it - its my present to my child.
I think the problem would be if the child was demanding all this colour-coordinated stuff that it was going too far. But kids just want a cake, candles and friends over to run amok.
All the rest is for the grown ups.

They do have an oilcloth like fabric. Its come in dots - I got red with white dots, and its also in light blue, yellow and black - all with dots. Its like a plastic coated tablecloth type fabric and is quite wide.
I used it to cover a door to make a desk top (with the ikea legs).
I'm in Australia, but would assume it would be in Ikea stores everywhere - we seem to get new stuff last...
I can't find it on the website, but it was about AU$15/metre

lupinelle, I painted a piece of furniture turquoise, loved it - everyone else in the house hated it - got passed back to my mum and my dad spent ages stripping it back to its original wood...
don't they get it? I must get them reading this site...
I still long for a turquoise cupboard.... ;(
