Love the bedside table - that is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Tell me it was recently acquired and available at a store near me? Alicia's Comforting Bedroom My Bedroom Retreat Contest |

I have that problem with a lot of my furniture. It's cute, I already own it (and thus its now cheap), but it just isn't right for the space. It's hard to put furniture in the outbox when you're on a too tight budget to replace it. I need to work on fixes to make it work, rather than replacing. :) Day 4: 10 Minutes Critiquing My Living Room Liveblogging the January Cure |

Can someone provide some tips on how to get your bread to rise in a cool new england apartment during the winter? I am somehow missing a key element or have a bad run of luck with yeast. I've tried setting the oven to the very base setting and leaving the door open just to give it a slightly warmer environment (although sometimes it gets too warm and start to cook/dry around the edges of the bowl). My water temp is lukewarm, not boiling so I shouldn't be killing the yeast.... And I tried a recipe that said to leave the bread in the fridge over night...once I beat it down in the morning in never rose again! Oh bread, why are you beyond my baking talents?! I agree with HelloHelloOhHello on the Somerville prices. The rates listed above seem extremely low. I lived there for 6 years with housemates in multiple Somerville neighborhoods, and when I went on the hunt for a studio or 1BR, the rates were significantly higher. Perhaps $1200-1300 for a studio basement apartment without updated appliances in non-public transport friendly Winter Hill, sure. I finally threw my hands up and moved to East Boston, newly renovated 1BR, right by the train, 10 min ride to downtown and under $1k. My only sacrifice was the sweet Somerville nightlife - but now I can actually afford the nightlife and a taxi home! What Does It Really Cost to Live in Boston? I have a set up like the one Catherine suggested above. I have a very tiny kitchen and had to make appliance sacrifices when I moved in. I ended up settling on an immersion blender stick and a mini cuisinart. However, I just don't use the food processor enough to justify it, but I'll blend smoothies in those protein shaker glasses all the time, make soups or stir up sauces with the immersion blender. As for the things that food processors help out with, I usually just crush or chop manually, change the recipe to "chunky" or purchase pre-chopped items such as with nuts. It just isn't worth the hassle of cleaning it and its so tiny to begin with. With the food processor, I'd suggest go big or go home. Either way, I find the immersion blender invaluable -- mine is powerful enough to even crush up frozen berries. What's Better for a Small Kitchen — a Blender or a Food Processor?Good Questions |

This is highly inspirational. I'm just going to buy an extra freezer to store my clothing in between wearings. I don't know why I've wasted all this time and money on washing my clothes. Let alone on my closet organizational system! How to Freeze Your Jeans & "Clean" Them Apartment Therapy Videos |

When I moved this past summer to a new place with limited storage, I did this very thing. It made a world of difference - quick to find and easy to tuck away. I only kept a couple of collector's box sets on a shelf. In total, my collection takes up one square foot now, instead of four shelves on my bookcase. Parting with the cases might feel tough at first, but you really don't miss them once they're gone! Quick Media Reorganization House*Tweaking |

It sounds delicious. I'm limited on time this week, so I think that I might try it using a pre-made mushroom broth (like from Pacific), then toss it over barley or quinoa, instead of pasta, to bring up the nutrient/healthy factor. I love all of these rug ideas. I live in a middle apartment myself, but am always concerned about how much noise *I'm* making rather than the other way around - the subwoofer when I'm watching an action movie, my music while I make dinner, my dancing around in the kitchen. I've never had a complaint, but I can hear entire conversations from above me at times. I'd like to think that if I threw down a few rugs I might contain some of the sounds I make. My best solution thus far has been to close my bathroom door - the ventilation system/pipes amplify sound like crazy. And I keep my subwoofer elevated on a shelf rather than the floor.
