Oh, another interestin place to check out is Universal Salvage, it's on the west side of Franklin Square - near the City Market area. Lots of vintage furniture and odd knick knacks.

Check out Broughton Street - what was downtown blight 10 years ago has turned into an interesting shopping strip. There are the predictable Starbucks and Gaps, but there are also some small design shops and even a few holdovers from the old days - I think the Wig Store might still be there.

Also, in addition to walking around the downtown area, check out some of the outlying neighborhoods. The neighborhoods on the sides of Forsyth park have been coming into their own in the past decade, and there are some interesting businesses and houses to see that aren't on the usual tourist beat. There's a wonderfully funky little house on Jefferson Street, just one block south of Gaston. It's a hidden gem in what is otherwise a barren street.

Oh, and eat eat eat. Savannah has tons of great restaurants.

I'm in my mid-thirties, I have a gradaute degree.

I have not written in cursive since middle school.

I don't even remember how to make a capital 'Q' anymore. I find this is even less important than the relatively unimportant field of calculus for 95% of us.

I have nothing against anyone who wants to write in cursive, more power to you, but it's really not a reflection of one's intelligence or ability.

Does anyone else see the irony of the ad above the comments? Not sure if everyone is seeing what I am - but it's for "The Mustang - Zero Turn" lawn mower. Doesn't exactly look 'green' to me.

just sayin'

I would guess '90s.

*The dishwasher has controls facing the front, unlike newer dishwashers from the very late '90s that put them on the top.

*The prep sink is an overmount, can't tell with the main sink - too far away. Also the faucet and handspray look dated. A newer handspray would probably not be the standard black one that appears to be hear.

*The ovens look older, but not too old.

*Coffee maker looks circa '90s - especially with the now standard model grinder next to it. My impression of the '80s is that people weren't as into coffee as they were in the '90s.

*Undercabinet lighting - this didn't really become popular till the '90s.

*Decor - the wicker chairs, the overloaded pot rack, the tile countertop seem to point to the '80s, but the shaker style cabinet doors, and the curved ceiling seem to be a little more '90s to me.

I'd put in 1990-1993.

I've heard the "Garde-Loo" thing too - I heard it was a hold over from when parts of England were still french speaking. Before chucking the chamber pot out the window you would yell "Gardez Lui" - or, loosely translated, "Look out"

Quick rule of thumb when translating SQ MT into SQ FT - multiply by 10. It's not 100% accurate, but it's not too far off, and it's helpful if you don't have a computer or iphone handy.

The stairs really are amazing.

This is perfect for a buyer who's interested in restoring or renovating the place to their own taste. The house is so in need of work that it drives down the price, making an otherwise unaffordable (if perfectly renovated) home within some people's budgets.

Because seriously, that "fireplace" has to knock off at least $40k.

Put me down for being against the term "Chaise Lounge" in general.

Having said that, I prefer the Mies Lounge Bench.

Another amazing artist in the world of paper (and photography is Thomas Demand...http://thomasdemand.de/He creates elaborate scenes out of paper than photographs them - from across a room it looks absolutely real, until you get close and notice all the outlets are just little white rectangles. He had a show at MoMA a few years ago, and I beleive one of his larger pictures is now installed in the MoMA Restaurent, The Modern.

Depending on the overall height of the room a vintage style Holophane looks great in a pre-war apt. If the ceiling is too low either a recessed light or a ceiling hugger works well for overall lighting. Use undercabinet lights for your work surfaces.

Outside of the kitchen/entry areas I'd recommend staying away from any ceiling mounted fixtures. Classic apt's don't have ceiling fixtures, they used table and floor lamps to light a room.

The Rakks system isn't really that expensive (that's what this is built on) - it's the cabinets that go on it that become pricey.

Even then, I think one could get a custom job with better finishes for about the same price.

I too use the "dry it when it's washed" method, and put my dishes away.

And it uses 100% less energy than a dishwasher.

I agree with kdka, Ray's role was far more than "documenting" Charles' life's work and making fabrics. It's commonly reffered to as the office of Charles AND Ray Eames....for a reason.

Nonwithstanding the occasional magazine article that call them brothers.
