Right. The first rule of hospitality is not to give your guests a food-borne illness. Anything else just makes for a good story.

Forgot to say I baked two loaves of whole wheat sandwich bread. I took one loaf to the neighbor who trimmed my spruce tree for me.

I have a friend visiting for the weekend so lunch was chili dogs and coleslaw. I have a roasting chicken brined and in the smoker and that will be served tonight with rosemary roasted root vegetables and some sauteed Brussels sprouts. Tomorrow starts with sausage and farm eggs and ends with pork cutlets braised with shallots and hard cider.

Last night was a little pork roast marinated with rosemary and garlic. Braised sweet and sour red cabbage, homemade crust WW bread. Tonight is a veal stew with fennel and marsala and spaetzle. I needed comfort food.

I loved, loved, loved this! I pretend that the Chinese invented miso soup instead of the Japanese and do an infusion of ginger and garlic instead of the fishy stuff. I think this needs some greens so will make it again with a handful of Chinese broccoli stirred in. The poached egg is an inspired idea.

For breakfast I made blueberry muffins, a healthy version that gets its bulk and moisture from a mixture of rolled oats and yogurt.

For lunch I had a salad of greens, pears, toasted walnuts and blue cheese.

I guess tonight's dinner is vegan though I Tonight is a stir fry of Chinese broccoli, oyster mushrooms, tofu in oyster sauce. Vegetarian rather than vegan because of the sauce.

Tomorrow I'm travelling but Sunday I will make my dad's recipe for "baked" beans, actually done mostly in the pressure cooker. I'm helping with dinner at a homeless shelter that rotates through the churches in town and will take the beans for a side dish for about 40 people.

I'm planning the same thing for both financial and health reasons. I've got plenty of grains and legumes squirreled away and a freezer full of vegetable heavy soups.

Where did you get the jars in the photo? I like them.

Home made baked beans. I just finished looking up instructions for doing them in a pressure cooker:

I had the kitchen sink back up about an hour before a dinner party. The guests arrived to find the RotoRooter truck in the driveway and I finished cooking and serving dinner, stepping over the portion of the Rooter Man that was sticking out from under my sink. The guests were good sports and the food was fine. I think I had a little more gin than usual though.

One of my meal templates is a grain, a bean and a green. Complete nutrition and plenty of room to embroider on flavors.
