Man, all this raving about the uses of coconut oil is making me conflicted...because when I think of coconut oil all I can think of is how my grandma used to put it in her hair all the time, and how I how I absolutely, totally, utterly hated the smell of it whenever I was near her...sadly enough. :( :( :(

Okay, I'm still getting acquainted with the new design of my beloved AT...but before I can offer any constructive criticism, I wanted to say THANKS to the AT team for working to improve the site! I guess people just don't like change, but I for one am glad to see you guys have been trying to keep the site top-notch.

:)

Just made these, following the recipe exactly, except I used a dollop of ginger paste in place of ground ginger, which I don't have. Mine took about 20 minutes to bake. Turned out wonderfully! So easy and so good, and I feel fine about eating three right away because it seems pretty healthy :)

Thanks a bunch!

I know this is an old article, but I had to comment to say I love their stuff - well, at least their scrub brush because that's what I've bought so far. I like that it's functional, effective, good-looking, and eco-friendly in construction and disposal. I just replaced the scrubbing head after about six months. The handle itself is indeed looking a little faded, but that's a minor complaint compared to all the other boxes these products tick. Full Circle fan right here!

While on Hawai'i's Big Island, I had the passionfruit cheesecake ice cream from Kope Lani, in Kona.

Best. Ice cream. Ever. Seriously. I'm actually more of a froyo person than an ice cream person, but I could eat this evvvveryday. I scoured the internet looking for something that I could buy (or even make!). No luck yet though :( SIGH.

Okay, I know this is an old article but I tried it the other day and had to review it.

It was really good! I followed the recipe pretty much, except I didn't have dill so I just omitted it. I also ended up adding about 3 cups of tomato sauce towards the end, to up the tomatoey flavor, as @Dana V recommended (I didn't have paste but sauce worked just fine). I didn't soak the nuts in water at all and it turned out fine.

My husband said he really liked it too! I will definitely make again. Thanks AT!

Kudos! This gives me hope for the distressingly 70s-themed bathroom in our new house - it was all dizzying orange linoleum, orange cabinets, and mirrors on every possible surface before we made so emergency changes, but it still has a way to go!

Thanks for posting this! [I actually really appreciate the fact that AT re-posts useful stuff occasionally, because there are just so many great ideas/tips/inspiration that are buried from way before I was introduced to the amazingness that is this site.]

Good tip about using a blade to cut out unused pages.

I've started doing the same - just divide up my single-subject notebook with tabs and use one notebook for two or three classes. This way my bag is lighter, too, without five notebooks to lug around. I also try to write all the way to the outside edge of the page, cause those margins add up to a lot of wasted space, and it's just my own notes anyways. :)

Me, too, Hellkat :(. I've been looking for ages for organic bed linens that I find reasonably appealing and not outrageously pricey, but no dice.

I shall keep faith, however, that one day something will turn up! =P

AT, thanks for the tip about thread count, I was always confused by those.

Yeah, I'm constantly losing my phone in the house because I'm so scatter-brained. Occasionally I would use Google chat to do the same thing...just type in your entire number and shoot away a text (usually along the lines of "stoopid phone where r u???"), and wait for your phone to chirp up from wherever it's hiding. Voila!

All definitely things to think about when considering bamboo.

The links briefly mention this, but from what research I've done, when it comes to hardness you have to consider that there are two different types of widely available bamboo. The regular bamboo is basically made up of slices of bamboo stalks glued together. It is available in vertical and horizontal versions; the difference is mainly aesthetic and the difference in hardness is negligible.

Strand-woven bamboo, however, is supposed to be extremely hard and durable, I believe generally around 3000 on the Janka hardness scale which is pretty high up there [the Janka scale is supposedly the standard way to measure the hardness of woods, and you can usually find a particular wood's rating in the specs]. Strand-woven is made of bits and strands of bamboo glued and melded together under high pressure, which gives it it's durability and it's different look--it's more strandy-looking than the clean lines of regular bamboo.

I think strand-woven bamboo is also a bit more eco-friendly in that it uses up a whole lot more of the bamboo stalk because the bits that would be otherwise relegated to waste when manufacturing regular bamboo can be used.

But I'm definitely no expert, just quoting what I've read/been told, so of course do your own research! :) We're putting down strand-woven bamboo (engineered, though, not solid) in my new house (but not in the kitchen or bathrooms) so we've got our fingers crossed that it lives up to the claims!

@GretaGrace, that's a helpful tip! Not to be too TMI, but I always get exasperated when I try to drink more water because, well, I just end up having to take a bathroom break like half an hour later...lol :)

I do agree - in my opinion marble is best done in moderate quantities or else it just looks like too much glam.

I am intrigued by the kitchen wall shelving in picture 5. Does anyone know where it's from?

Those windows, that light! I'm just about drooling :) I love love love how the dark wood is working so beautifully with that green on the walls. In my opinion, dark wood and green together is just about the loveliest combination, but so hard to do right. Congrats on a lovely home!
