I'd have furniture rotation if you want to spend minimum. The couch is placed at the current tv unit spot with some space from the window and the radiator, the tv unit is placed at the current book shelf spot right next to the kitchen and the book shelf is placed at the current couch spot. Cool looking extension cords will solve most of outlet location problem. Getting some bar stools for the counter. As people are saying, artwork, pillows, anything, just splash color on the walls and in between books.

It's really interesting. Now I realize that this is my 3rd apartment (with my hubby) in Brooklyn Heights. I also did the Intra-neighborhood move several times in Park Slope when I was single.

If you like a different shade of wood, simply sand them(I don't want to scare you but "sanding" is the hardest part) and then stain them. If you want to brighten up the kitchen, you should go with a shade of white or a some light color of paint. (FYI :when my hubby and I did this project, we used an oil base primer + two coats of high gloss paint after sanding.
