I renovated a similar stereo cabinet to be used as a bar (mine was in perfect condition, so I didn't have to salvage anything). I gutted the inside, removing all stereo equipment and speakers, and lined the inside walls with felt fabric. Lastly, I placed lights in the speaker boxes. At night you can turn the lights on and the glow illumates the circles on the grate where the speakers used to be.
Serves its purpose very well when entertaining, and hides everything nicely when not.
