Huh, if by jazz it up you mean completely replace everything in the room, then, yes, they did that. There is literally not a thing that they didn't replace with something different...

p.s. What is the story on the blue flooring? LOVE THEM, especially with the dark walls.

Absolutely one of my fave house tours. The house (and its owners) have a definite style that is accessible and inspirational. Love the colors--it just feels like a happy place.
Thanks for sharing!

And I third the request for the wallpaper art!

Wow, this brings back memories!!
I loved dolls as a kid and was in kindergarten the frenzy year of CPK. Alexandra in my class had one and brought it to school. I remember coveting that doll (or maybe it was Alexandra's fancy plaid kilt and matching shirt? Girl had it all!)
The next year for xmas my grandfather bought my sister and I the home-made CPKs. Such disappointment! In retrospect, they look an awful lot like the originals....

Then for my birthday that year, I got 'Missy Cynthie'. She had blond curly hair and pink corduroy overalls. I'm sure she is somewhere in my old doll collection. I also later had a preemie, but I don't remember her name. By then American Girl Dolls came out!

I've seen the shelf/hook and cubby thing at millstores in my area. If you can't build your own, they are often a cheaper alternative to Pottery Barn, etc, and you have the option to paint or stain them however you like!

I am so distressed at the level of vitriol my fellow parents and parents-to-be are leveling at Ms. Jong. I am a young mother who agreed far more with Ms. Jong's opinions than those expressed by her daughter.

As a parent who tries to craft a parenting strategy that allows for as much support, nurturing, and attachment as possible while still accommodating my and my husband's full time jobs, I find the condemnation of this article a little much.

The overall point of the article as I read it was that parents these days seem to be constantly worried about being the perfect parent, and that there seems to be just one perfect model, that is often unattainable for a variety of reasons. Ms. Jong seemed to offer relief from that ideal by emphasizing that our children will turn out just fine if we are unable (by choice or situation) to parent to the letter of the attachment parenting model, or other models that are similar.

While Ms. Jong does seem to pick on certain strategies that have wide, and passionate, circles of followers, and they seem to be perhaps understandably defensive, the quote that you italicize seems to fit in with the overarching acceptance she is offering.

Do the best you can!

Not sure if you are handy, or have any desire to make your own, but the blog Knock Off Wood has plans for a table/island just like that (http://knockoffwood.blogspot.com/search/label/tables). You could avoid the chipping paint issue mentioned above and you could customize as needed to fit your space.
