Wow, we had almost the same idea! My son is turning 5 and we're having his party this weekend. When I read this post, I was actually blowing up globe beach balls to be given as favors! Our theme is hiking/adventure...the kids will have to hike to the birthday cake, which they'll find by following yellow arrows (like the camino de santiago, if anyone is familiar). I've used maps as backgrounds on the invitations and for the cake topper. I'd love to find some flags like you used, but haven't had luck.
