While we're at it, there is a HUGE difference in baking POWDERS. If you REALLY want to improve the taste of your baking, use a baking powder that does NOT contain sodium aluminum sulfate. I use Rumford exclusively as it is a phosphate-based baking powder which includes calcium acid phosphate in its ingredient list. The aluminum sulfate in Clabber Girl & many others, comes off as a bitter, metalic taste to many people with discerning taste buds. The only other non-aluminum baking powder I'm aware is Magic Baking Powder. If Rumford is hard to find, make your own: 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp cream of tartar. Now I know what I'm going to do w/ that Easter ham bone this weekend! Here's the best beer bread recipe that is tried & true. I'm involved in a women's organization whose members have been making MANY loaves of this fabulous, tasty, easy bread, selling it each year (@ 50 cents a slice!) to raise funds for charity.
