Turning old board games into wall hangings is a lot of fun. I did it with Monopoly (well, the campus themed Auburnopoly) and it turned out great. The hard part was getting the stack of Chance and Community Chest cards to stick in a pile.

One advantage the tablet version of board games has is unlimited pieces. For some games this isn't allowed since the set number of pieces is part of the design but for others where it was merely a manufacturing issue, you can get more out of the tablet version.

Inspired by a space ship in "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe", a couple of years ago I painted my home office black. Add in black furniture, computer, etc it was quite a site. But I very much regret using matte black. It shows every single little scuff mark. I didn't use glossy because I wanted to walls to disappear in the dark (the office has no external windows). The effect works well and it does feel at times like the room is infinite. The only thing to creates bounds for the eyes is the furniture. But wow, do those scuff marks look awful and they're so easy to create.

I'm planning on expanding the kitchen into the current office space. Here comes the hard part... painting over black! Any guesses on the number of coats of primer it is going to take? Four? At least I don't have to bother with the wall that's coming out.

The SteriPen worked great for me on a recent trip to Tanzania. While bottled water was available at our hotel, once we started climbing Kilimanjaro, all of our water came from nearby streams. My fellow hikers all complained of water tasting like a swimming pool since they had to treat it with chlorine. But the SteriPen did its job and I have had fresh mountain water to drink which is really important when going to high altitudes. The only downside is that it does take a couple of minutes to treat each liter of water which can be inconvenient when everyone else is waiting to break camp.

Pretty sure I'm not going to use it at home though unless perhaps there is a boil water advisory.

We use to do this as kids though our designs were a bit more ragged and a lot more boxy. My favorite included a little door for the built in waste basket.

So many possibilities with IKEA. I just measured, I could put four of the 4x4 units in a two by two configuration in the living room but I wonder if the lower units are really designed to hold the weight of the upper units. It'd also be good in the kitchen as a appliance barn if each square was just a couple of inches larger (18" square would hold any counter top appliance I have). Those with smaller mixers and blenders could have a good time using it.

Hope Apple has some sort of plan for what to do if there North Carolina data center catches on fire or is hit by a tornado. Is there really just one data center for iCloud with no backup elsewhere?

Loyalty to some of the largest corporations in the world is just plain silly. They don't love you. They don't hate you. They just want your money and will do anything they can get away with to get it.

There have been several similar services in the past and Craigslist has blocked them all. I'm not sure why they are so insistent on each link being clicked individually except perhaps they feel that it'll make people choosy about which links they click and save the company's bandwidth.

Staplers, maybe... if I often stapled two different types of paper groups. Perhaps I generate forty TPS reports each day at 2pm that are thirty sheets each. I'd need a really heavy duty electric stapler for that. But then I also print up the late afternoon tea menu that is printed on delicate paper and on a second sheet is the list of watercress, cucumber and other crustless sandwiches. I'd want a different stapler for that. Not everyone needs the same items in their their toolbox.

Dual dishwashers aren't likely to be needed for the volume of most households (the Duggards would probably need at least three) but in a country of over three hundred million people, I can see the dual setup fitting the lifestyle of some social butterflies and culinary craftspeople.

If you really want crazy, talk to the woman that needs a second washing machine due to her huge quanity of napkins!

While my knee jerk reaction is that this is silly, if you entertain a lot, it would be great to use one for cleaning all of the pots and pans while the other is used on a more delicate cycle for the wine glasses and plates. It certainly isn't for everybody or even most people but for some, it would be heaven.

Personally, I find electric can openers to be a silly invention but if I worked in a kitchen that made use of lots of canned food, it'd be great. Same for electric staplers on the desk.

When I bought my home eight years ago, I took it as an opportunity to ditch the land line. I actually don't know if the telephone wiring in my house even works!

It is going to vary by individual. When I worked at Home Depot corporate headquarters, they had desks that converted between sit down and stand up. I really can't stand in place all day but I'd usually put the desk into stand up mode for an hour in the middle of the morning and then again for an hour in the middle of the afternoon. It was nice variety. Sadly it is the only place I've worked that has had that setup and it's kind of expensive to replicate at home... at least as a two-in-one solution.

Nice placement of the Chinese flag app logo. Seems appropriate.

"Well with a 95% acceptance rate within 7 days, we don’t really see any problem with Apple being rejection-happy. "

If you were in the other 5%, you might feel differently.

"Now, everyone is on an even playing field and has the possibility to get mass exposure."

Kind of like that place called the web, where anyone can put up a site and anyone can get to it? (Well, unless you live somewhere like China) No Apple approval required!

The mass exposure part will go away just as soon as more apps are added. Look at the app store for the iphone. It's very easy to get your app lost in there. I'm sure there are plenty of companies, developers and designers who would rather they had a choice to put their iphone apps out on their own web site, with their own marketing instead of being at the mercy of Apple.

One nice thing about the Mac App Store over the iphone app store... you don't have to use it. Macs can still install apps from places other than the App Store... at least for now.

The Mac App Store is a nice convenience. There are certainly benefits to it but let's not be glib about the potential downsides, especially when dealing with a company that has a long history of being obsessed with control.

Pretty neat! I'd get bored gluing all of the pages together though it might be possible to soak all of the pages in a watery paste mixture while keeping the cover above the solution. Once it dried, the pages would be adhered together and ready for cutting.

I've also found that the nice storage bag that came with the second generation Zune perfectly fits the third generation Kindle. It's not padded so it won't help with drops but it does keep it from getting scratched up. It's nice to be able to use something that is already laying around instead of needing to purchase something new.

ESPN3 on the Xbox has a huge problem with the advertisements. At first it was like espn3.com where commercial breaks are replaced with a message that the program would be back in a moment. But during the college bowl season, they started putting in their own commercials.

The problem was that they kept playing the same commercials over and over again. For many bowls there were only two commercials, one by AT&T and the second by All State, repeated endlessly. It was grating on the nerves to hear the same commercial over and over each break, sometimes played three times in a row. Anyone who has had a child get obsessed with a song knows that even the most innocent sounding audio quickly will drive you mad when played over and over again.

The really odd thing happened during the BCS Championship game between Oregon and Auburn. ESPN3 kept playing the same internal commercial featuring everyone mindlessly cheering "Roll Tide!" over and over again. Since it was an ESPN commercial, it wasn't even that anyone paid to have it inserted. Anyone whos anything about college football knows that Auburn fans don't want to hear "Roll Tide!" several thousand times while watching their game. Out of all of the ESPN commercials, why pick that one?

Whoever is in charge of inserting commercials into Xbox Live's ESPN3 feed needs to go. If they can't leave that space empty and can't play the normal network commercials, they need to get some good variety in the advertisements or risk alienating viewers before the service even gets a chance to get off the ground.
