I live in an apartment with carpet like that. I just bought a great rug last month and it made the most amazing difference. Check it out: http://simplysjostedt.com/2011/06/13/busy-bees/

We own a white slip-covered IKEA sofa and although we do not have children, we have two big dogs. We actually chose the couch so we could not only remove the covers and wash them, but because we could bleach them as well. We love our couch and have bleached the slipcovers nearly 6 times now with no issues. Plus, replacing the slipcover every few yearsif necessary is also more affordable than reupholstering or replacing a ruined pricier couch.

I just made my own using old china and glass candlesticks like the DIY cupcake stand link above. So easy and a great holiday gift project.

A friend and I once poured a jar of salsa over a block of cream cheese, nuked it, and ate it with tortilla chips. I've never felt worse but it was soooo good.

This may freak some people out but make that extra fluff work for you. My chow mix sheds his undercoat twice a year. I use the Furminator tool on him once a week, collect all that soft hair and send it to VIP fibers (http://www.vipfibers.com/). They spin it into yarn and send it back to you. I first heard about it on Martha Stewart.
