We have a cat who taught herself to pee in the toilet so we only have to clean the poop out of the litter box. Unfortunately she's 14 now and also taken to peeing in shoes.... yuck! I'm sure our apt is probably smelly despite Nature's Miracle, vinegar and a host of other cleaning products but as one poster noted, your nose gets used to it and you can't smell it yourself except when it's absolutely overwhelming. Has anyone used one of those black light pee detectors? Also, any thoughts on how to get rid of pee smell out of shoes that can't be put in a washing machine? Thank you Ella T for your feedback. Seems like they might work nicely in this room where it is wall to wall but not for what I had in mind. Greta's Bold, Colorful Abode My Room |

What a charming room! We are considering getting Flor carpet tiles for our living room and I am wondering what you think of them? There is no showroom in my city so I'm a bit cautious before taking the leap! Greta's Bold, Colorful Abode My Room |

the early years can be tough! I once 'accidentally' broke a CD shelf my husband loved but i hated. But after 15+ years of co-habitating I'd say, don't rush. If you aren't agreeing on something, find an area you can move forward and go with that, while mulling over each other's ideas. Try to say yes more than you say no, but don't settle for something that's going to make you unhappy. Sometimes a side benefit of waiting it out a little is I realize I actually don't care about X that much and by giving in there I'll be able to have a little bargaining power when it comes to Y which I do care about. these are all quite adorable but i love our combo salt shaker and pepper grinder. it's less clutter and just easier to only grab for one thing, also, i could never go back to pre-ground pepper. Good Design, Everyday Objects: Salt & Pepper Shaker Sets |

Our cabin project has involved the volunteer help of a couple of dozen people over several years. It's been a slow but amazing and cost-effective way to get something done that we otherwise would not have been able to do. Inspiration For Communal Work: Barn Raisings |

Great post! Five years ago when my honey and I started building an off-grid cabin we had so many ideas and possibilities running through our heads that we had a hard time knowing where to start. We came up with some criteria/guidelines that helped us out and helped us stay patient in what has been a long but enjoyable process. The 7 keywords we came up with were: loveable, low-impact, logical, low-cost, long-lasting, local and lots o'uses (versatility would have been a better word but we were already on an L roll so...) It's made searching on craigslist for the perfect thing feel like a part of the story, not a frustrating delay we'd spend our way out of if we could. Re: the pets issue. I was recently asked by a friend if she could bring her dogs to a weekend in the country and I said sure if they are polite and well-behaved. Within minutes of her arrival she casually mentioned that her dogs were banned from the dog park for fighting but that her dogs and the other 3 dogs in attendance would all 'work it out.' Two days and four dog fights later she's no longer on my invite list. The frustrating part of it I'm really not sure what I could do to prevent something like this from happening in the future. I love having doggy and human guests but a few more weekends like that and I'd be done! How To Be the Guest That Gets Invited Back |

sticking a magnet on your sharpie or pen by putting a magnet under tape (i use red duct tape) makes your pen easy to find anytime and no risk of leaky sharpie near your frozen goods. i also use this same wrapped magnet for my broom so it doesn't fall down in its spot near the fridge and sticks to my metal doorways in my condo. it's just a little thing but not having your broom falling over every time you set it down is nice. also i like the look of the bright red band on the broom handle! 15 Crazy Ideas to Make Your Life Saner |

@Minuet42 - I agree with @hungrypassport. Creative energy is really different from consumer energy imho. That said, unless something is on sale I also use the 3 day rule before buying new supplies that I'm not positive I know what to do with. I avoid craft stores like Michael's if I know I'm an a 'spendy' mood and not shopping for something specific. And I do purge 'dead' projects every 6 months or so as well as making a rule that my craft stuff needs to fit in my craft space. Fighting the Feeling of "Should" |

seems to me like this isn't *that* much more than a paint job, a table and taking the photo from a different angle so the fridge doesn't show. kinda bugs me when before and after pictures are also crappy picture/good picture. Before & After: A DIY Kitchen Makeover An Urban Cottage |

i'd go with dhw's suggestion of white -- let the wood be the colour in the room although i think the coloured beams are kinda funky. and imo the orange on that couch is not working with the wood and the brick, too many competing shades of reds/oranges. but i do like that couch!
