A Wonderful Mix of Styles in One Room

I cannot explain exactly why, but I find the living room to be cluttered--especially in comparison with the rest of the home.

That's my only criticism though; everything really is beautifully done.

Bookmarked for my future inspiration book.

Both clever *and* beautifully executed here. Love it.

wow--what a helpful post and comments. I am in the decision-making process about whether to finally sell off my grandma's machine or keep it. I am not a pro and hardly sew at all, but always imagined I might.one.day start...you know how it goes.

Now I am convinced I should sell it to an appreciative seamstress.

I love it! Would've preferred a different fabric, but still it's a great exploration of form.

my grandmother (in equatorial tropics) used to grow tender greens in an old canoe on sawhorses, to keep animals and weeds out.

i'm a total neon yellow fan, too, tess.

The yellow stripes in the blanket have such zing, pizzazz; love the energy!

A bit funky but totally functional! Example: the wall o'lockers/file cabinets: wow!

the kitchen space generally is great, and the bedroom forest is fun.

good job!

love this--especially the kitchen.

I went back and found the house tour, but even after looking through those photos, I cannot tell where the loft is. Can someone clue me in?

The mirrored table is a great idea too: adds extra light and space--or seems to, which is the point, right?

great job overall.

ooooh, orange done right: sunny and zingy, without taking over. Really like the orange in the office space.

Great combination of new and old, art and function. Wish I had a back bench like yours.

Bookmarked for future inspiration!

Another one here that would go for the bowls!

Is it possible to get nice enamel ware anymore, or is it only vintage that's left? Enamel ware is so much nicer than plastic.

hahahahaha: $68 for felt coasters????!!!!

Better to buy some wool yarn, needles, and knit/felt dozens for yourself for less than $20.

I live in LA, and have a fully equipped survival kit, but nobody has yet mentioned a crucial ingredient: cigarettes! Though I haven't smoked in many years, you can be darn sure I'll be hankering for a smoke, if I survive the big one!

Even if you don't own a sewing machine, if you pin it all up yourself, ready for stitching, it's still much cheaper at a local tailor's. If you are truly clueless about how to pin it up, then find a friend who sews and have that person help you before taking it to the tailor. I have made three covers from perfectly good, colorful cotton sheets from the local thrift shop. Each one was less than $15 in all.

I live in Los Angeles, and was alarmed by the daily layer of grey/micro dust that settles on every horizontal surface. I assume it's car exhaust and smog. Thank goodness I am leaving this car-choked town in a few months for the country...
