I cannot explain exactly why, but I find the living room to be cluttered--especially in comparison with the rest of the home.

That's my only criticism though; everything really is beautifully done.

wow--what a helpful post and comments. I am in the decision-making process about whether to finally sell off my grandma's machine or keep it. I am not a pro and hardly sew at all, but always imagined I might.one.day start...you know how it goes.

Now I am convinced I should sell it to an appreciative seamstress.

my grandmother (in equatorial tropics) used to grow tender greens in an old canoe on sawhorses, to keep animals and weeds out.

A bit funky but totally functional! Example: the wall o'lockers/file cabinets: wow!

the kitchen space generally is great, and the bedroom forest is fun.

Is it possible to get nice enamel ware anymore, or is it only vintage that's left? Enamel ware is so much nicer than plastic.

I live in LA, and have a fully equipped survival kit, but nobody has yet mentioned a crucial ingredient: cigarettes! Though I haven't smoked in many years, you can be darn sure I'll be hankering for a smoke, if I survive the big one!

These look great, in a very dramatic way, but how do they get rid of the scorched smell?

I live in Los Angeles, and was alarmed by the daily layer of grey/micro dust that settles on every horizontal surface. I assume it's car exhaust and smog. Thank goodness I am leaving this car-choked town in a few months for the country...
