Really happy to find this post and to read the endorsements of flour sack towels. They are very absorbent--and they also dry very quickly. (I soaked my new ones in vinegar as suggested above.)

This company sells floursack dish towels in colours, if you're like me and wanted to avoid the possibility of unsightly stains: http://www.simplysmartliving.com/The-Original-Floursack-100-Cotton-Dish-Towels--Set-of-3_p_112.html

One of the towels began to fray the end, and the above company gave me three replacements at no cost!

Thanks, RosieDaisy--what a great compliment. The stone at the bottom is Caesarstone. I was hoping for a grey limestone, but the stone contractor had some leftover Caesarstone, and it actually looked convincing. The stone on the inside is Carrara marble.

I made an error in posting the tile company's website above (I gave the wrong one); their online site is http://www.oraclestone.com/

Sorry!

(Reluctant to promote), but Tianinspace, here's their ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/oraclestone

And here's their online store: http://www.mosaictilewholesaler.com/

I can't see the fan tiles listed there anymore, but you contact them to see if they still have that particular tile.

elw, they come on the 12" X 12" sheet.

The tiler affixed them on a backboard first, and then mounted the backboard onto the existing fireplace.

I purchased the fish scales from an online retailer, Oracle Tile. They are $14 / ft. I looked long and hard to find an equivalent for less money, but I couldn't. In the end, it's only about 15 square feet anyway. At night, they have a shine that reflects the light. A little too much bling for my partner, but I'm trying to embrace the showiness!

Thanks everyone!

The tv is being mounted on the wall in a few days (we're still in transition here). It's going above the fireplace--much as I tried to resist this placement. I don't think I can move the sectional and seating arrangement as suggested because the dining furniture is adjacent along the same wall ("below" the furniture in the photo). I placed the sectional where it is to great some sense of division between the two spaces. But you've given me something to think about in the future!

This is actually my husband's place--we live in separate cities, and (because of the expense of having two places) it was all done on a very tight budget.

Thanks again for being such a great community.

potpie--the closest PB Outlet is too far away from me, sadly.

Thanks, askmke! I had actually noticed that same sconce from lighting direct--and I like it--but I'm still trying to scope out something a little cheaper.

Velexere, I'm looking for something that doesn't have frosted glass--all metal. I'd prefer something in polished nickel or chrome if possible. But I like the price point of Home Depot--thanks!

I would disagree with the previous post about the comfort and quality of EQ3's furniture. While I like their price point and their designs, we purchased a sleeper sofa that was very uncomfortable and which fell apart a couple of days after it was delivered. Looked good. Priced well. But I wouldn't say it was quality.
