"and I skipped a dining room table for a pool table"

@ applebomb: smart move. I wish I had the space to do the same thing :)

Yeah I did that too. The game was extremely boring and pointless but the design OMG, I had so much fun with it.

If only someone would release a interior decoration game :)

Yes! Thank you. Finally a house where:

- the kitchen is being used
- the bookcases are filled with books and dvds and not just one decorative item per shelf.

i.e., a real home.

Ηealth concerns aside it's not good for the dog to sleep on the bed, since it confuses their sense of placement within the "pack" hierarchy. You'll find every trainer agree that a dog that knows exactly where it belongs (usually at the bottom of the herd) is a happier dog.

It's a God send space saver. You wouldn't believe how much it holds and it occupies so little floor space.

wow! I have the same storage tower and I was also thinking to either spray paint it or wallpaper it. I'm glad to know it's not as difficult as I was afraid it would be. Does anybody know what kind of paint would be most suitable for this surface?

@Cactina: I personally got very envious at Edyta having a back yard for her dogs. I'm sure I'd do the same thing, just enjoy my coffee and watch at my dog running around happy. I thought it was nice showing in one phrase how they can enjoy their home beyond the nice furniture and all.

One small piece of neon yes; the set up I see in the photos is too much. Imagine being tired and trying to relax with all that crazy colour...

@ MissHeliotrope: Italians excluded. I wouldn't expect less from the country that made coffee a real art. From what I've seen, usually in the UK, France, Belgium and Greece you'll see filter coffee makers.

@ MissHeliotrope: most houses I've been to throughout Europe had filter coffee makers. Which hardly anyone calls American coffee :)

I'm European so the parisian house and furniture proportions you guys describe are, well, ordinary to me; reading the comments here I wonder just how big are the houses in the US? the impression I get from the movies is that they are HUGE! (except in NY).

And yeah, it's so true that French kitchens are (usually) super organized. I think it goes down to having all things that are really being used and not too much clutter.

@ Victoria W
Perhaps I should have said: not everyone cooks the same kind of food? Is this less offensive? There are some kind of cuisines, like mediterranean that heavily rely on an oven. I'm not sure if it's the same with Asian cooking.
And the storage is really inadequate for my standards, what can I say? I can never get enough space on a kitchen.

I thought the oven was a microwave, because it's placed so high; I know I would have a problem checking out my food every 20 minutes if I had to step on a stool every time. At such height I would also have a problem handling the trays (maybe I'm too short!).

Well I like before/after posts. And I have to say as well, not everyone can afford the same budget for decorating, and this may shock some people (gasp), but some of us can afford no budget at all right now.

As for this room, I like the "after". I think a touch of colour in the window (between the white walls) would make this space really stand out: a nice curtain or roman blinds perhaps.

It looks so much bigger than my 55m2. I would add a small (microwave size) oven on one of the counters and additional storage on the kitchen walls; then again, not everyone cooks :)
