Kentucky: I would recommend: Paducah and the "artist relocation program" http://www.paducahalliance.org/artist_relocation_program.php This program offers spaces for artists for as little as $1, moving assistance up to $2500, start up business assistance $2500, rehab costs $5000, acquisition assistance $15,000. This has created a really wonderful arts community in a small town near "Land Between the Lakes"

I totally agree with the above comment. There are so many AMAZING places in my southeastern city of Louisville....I know because I am a different person's home every day. This region of the country is almost completely ignored by AT. I would love to prove you wrong AT. Give us a chance. Blogger Search: House Tour Contributors | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

I have been a member of this community for a while and it is so frustrating to hear that so many of you think the south is full of "frou frou" and Victorian. The south is a diverse, unique and wonderful place to live. I have lived all over the world including London, New York, and for the last two months, Western Massachusetts. Since living here I have heard things like "don't worry your southern accent isn't that bad" "small towns in the south really scare me" "how did you manage to make it out of the south with such a good education". I understand that many Northeasterners have a hard time getting past images of Terra but truly, things have changed and in many ways the south is more progressive and more accepting than other parts of the country. Just wanted to give you the "heads up" on that because I think this is a great community and wouldn't want you to miss anything. Below I have posted just a couple of the loft spaces available in Louisville, my home town, city of 1 million people....it is a very hip place full of artists, glassblowers, horses, the best bourbon in the country, and some truly amazing living spaces. Come on. Everyone has had a "moment" in life when other people thought they were an idiot or mean, or nasty, or jealous... just look above for more examples. Unfortunately, Eddie Ross had his moment on television. I am sure that Marth Stewart wouldn't hire just anyone and that Eddie must be extremely talented. Give the guy a break. He's not that bad and he was a really good designer. Apartment Therapy New York | Flea Market Shopping with Eddie Ross |

We live in an old house that smelled like cat urine. The previous owners had wall-to-wall carpet. The carpet was taken up but the odor remained....the urine leaked into the floor boards. We rented a sander and sanded, restained, and varnished the floors ourselves. This helped with the smell immensely. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Good Questions: Removing "Old House" Smell?
