I just bought a bright orange Public M8 and I LOVE it. It truly does make me want to cycle forever. But I also seriously considered buying the Linus Mixte. Both brands have a selection of fab city bikes.

Case of wine (mixed varieties)-- some for saving a few years or for celebrating the 1st anniversary. Or a basket with assorted specialty foods and candies-- the types of things you wouldn't buy at your typical grocery store run. I've done this a few times and have been told this was good to have for the honeymoon.

Did anyone else notice that The Washington Post today has an article about Sarah Vowell and that she is quoted making a quip about Apartment Therapy???

As a fan of both This American Life and Apartment Therapy, I was pleased to see this overlap.

Thanks everyone.
I assembled this bed myself (with help from a friend). The assembly was like Ikea assembly, but on steroids. It took an entire weekend. But it was absolutely worth it.

It did cost me a bit over $2000, but considering the money I saved by buying a studio rather than a one bedroom, I think it was money well spent.

And yes, the middle shelves slide in front of the outer shelves and books, vases, etc. all stay put. The only downside is that when the bed is down you can't access your belongings on the outermost shelves (because they end up behind the sliding shelves).

I think many of the commenters are missing the point. In most co-housing communities, you have your own home (be it an apartment or a single-family dwelling). You can lock your door and retreat inside whenever you want/need to. But there are often shared meals, shared child care, etc-- whatever the community decides they want to share. I love the idea and think I would do well in a co-housing situation. And I'm a private, introverted person.

And I know the Joint house, too. I never lived there, but I did go to parties there-- and had friends in other cooperatives. Is there more than one, or are we all talking about Ann Arbor?

Thanks so much for the recommendation for Washington Framers Workroom a month back. I got my art framed and it looks great (I did the do it yourself option). Every time I look at it it makes me happy.

I've also been making (and loving)the pizza with dough from the Artisan Bread recipes. Although I'm kicking myself jooleeyet, because last night I made pasta with garlic scape pesto and now I wish I had made pizza with it instead!

I don't like it. But then again, I don't like ANY treatment (or architecture for that matter) that draws extra attention to the garage door. I don't own a car and much prefer pedestrian-oriented/pedestrian-friendly urban design where the pedestrian is given a higher status than the car. Or at least design where the front door is given more emphasis than the garage door...

DC folks: does anyone have any good recommendations for art framing shops? I live in Adams Morgan and would love to go to one of the shops here, but only if they have a good ratio of fair pricing and good craftsmanship. I've never had something professionally framed before, but I have a piece of actual art for a change and I want to splurge and do it justice in a nice frame.

janbrady, I have new towels from West Elm. They're only a month or so old so I can't speak to durability but I am enjoying their softness. They also do a great job at drying (an important factor in a towel).

I didn't know about these until I bought some furniture on Craigslist and went to pick it up from one of these houses. The owner was really cool and gave me and my bf a tour. If the neighborhood were more convenient, I would be lusting over these homes.

OK, so I'm a video game dummy. I don't have a tv... I use my computer to watch dvds, access online video, etc. Could I hook up the Wii and Wii fit to my computer? This does look very appealing, but not if I also have to buy a television set.

I belong to a CSA that distributes their produce at the Adams Morgan Farmers Market. They may not be accepting new customers for the CSA right now, but I can't speak highly enough about them! Even though the Adams Morgan farmers market doesn't run all year round, they still distributed to their CSA members year round. I don't know of any other CSAs the operate the way they do-- you put down $300 and that establishes your "account." Each week you go to their website and choose whether to order a small box, a large box, or no box. You can also add in additional produce, bread, butter, etc. if you like. Your account is only debited what you actually order. It's perfect for us DC-area professionals who travel too much to belong to a traditional CSA (where you get must get produce EVERY week throughout the summer)
