Even when I had a dishwasher I never used it....growing up in California I have always been super conscious of water use and waste, and I feel like it was always too much to rinse and then run them in the machine. Hand wash, all the time.

p.s. for my 30th I did a "Dove Day Afternoon." Brunch with a few friends at Dovetail (3 course affair with champagne and extra desserts!) and then I met the rest of my friends at The Dove in the West Village for snacks and cocktails. Julia Stiles was there! It was Super Bowl Sunday and my friends still came out to party with me. It was great! I got wasted and broke a bunch of glasses. Salut :)

I've stopped. It's hard to throw parties in NYC because of space restrictions! So usually it's dinner out. This year my friends and I are doing dim sum at the casino by the racetrack and getting aura readings. I just like seeing everyone and doing dumb sh-t with them!

My door opens right into my apartment - no hallway, nook, or anything of the kind. On either side of the door is a small table with baskets for keys and maps, and a rack of hooks for coats and shoerack. Help? Tiny NYC apartment syndrome!

This is so impractical but I can't bring myself to throw out any item of clothing bought while "channeling Ziggy Stardust." I just can't.

At home I'm in underwear and a sweatshirt/tshirt/tank top. Pants just hinder eating. They are, however, close at hand in the case of a random drop-by.

I'm sure back in the day they did not use microwaves - any alternatives to this step? I haven't owned one in over 10 years.

this is an awesome recipe for home, but keeping vinegar and a slotted spoon at work - no go.

We throw a yearly holiday party together - I am in charge of cooking and he is in charge of cleaning the apartment. It works out well. If he does decide to make or prep something, I make sure I am out of the kitchen doing something else. It's the only way to maintain peace!

it was not a good thing.

last minute out of town guests who want to eat out! i live in new york, so there is a constant rotation of people coming in and out of the city wanting to ball out of control. visitors don't realize that people actually live here and pay rent!

now i tend to shop for ingredients the day i want to cook. or, i send BF to the store to get things started if it's a slowcooker recipe, because he is free during the day.

my problem is cooking enough so that i have leftovers to take to work with me in the morning! i portion out the servings but my bf always inevitably turns to me and says, "is there any more?" so my leftover lunch usually goes into his tummy for dinner.

i usually end up cooking something quick in the morning because i also don't like to use the microwave at work, especially with the plastic containers.

i usually do rice and chicken meatballs/tsukune (with corn, carrots, peas) or a zaru soba with shredded chicken and red cabbage and mirin-soy dressing. i also do some omusubi with tuna and maybe some furikake sprinkled on it, and pack with some takuan. this is great because leftover rice is better for it. it definitely is japanese-centric but my kitchen is pretty well-stocked for this and it lends to packing very well. it's also usually the only way i get to eat asian food on a regular basis as bf is a meat-and-potatoes texan!
