I hate to say it - but the image in B is a compass, not a clock. :)

Use daylight balanced bulbs! They are a little more expensive (and they all need to be the same or the light will look funky) - but they make a room feel lighter and all the whites look whiter. Also, try a common photography lighting trick - get some lamps that point toward the ceiling - which will bounce the light wide on the ceiling then all over and make it seem more ambient, and less like you have spotlights here and there.

ooh, I'm having the same struggle with mine! mine is "new" but cheapy - so nothing really cool or salvageable about it. I rent, and I cannot paint it. luckily I don't use it (never had the gas hooked up), so no need to vent. Mine isn't a wall unit - it takes up a lot of space.

i'm inspired by all the ideas for turning it into a console! thanks. :)

while I think giving things away regularly (or on a special day) is a FABULOUS idea that should be encourage....I have to admit I hate seeing junk on the sidewalk...it's tacky, can be hazardous, and costs the city in cleanup when no one takes it.

I think we should encourage a day when everyone finds some free things to put up on craigslist, or maybe organize a "swap" board for your apartment complex - putting up photos and descriptions of things you'd happily give to a neighbor (and get to meet them in the process)!

I might participate the 'craigslist' way - or check out this "freecycle" website someone else mentioned!

I'm jealous of all the light you're getting!!

Like many commenters have suggested, you've got a lot of doors, and more importantly design-wise, a lot of focal points! Focus on selecting and enhancing a single focal point on that wall.

I'd suggest doing a curtain on the french doors to match the widow on the left side...something that would blend well with the walls, and help make the front door with the scroll work your main focal point.

If it wasn't a rental, my actual preference would be to simplify the front door with a coat of paint to match the wall, and then take the blinds off the french doors to maximize the view outside...but I'm guessing that's not an option.

Good luck, and welcome home!

how about one long chalk board?

use chalk board paint to paint a stripe, maybe 1.5 to 2 feet tall, starting about 3ft off the ground. The entire length of the hallway. You could place trim above and below, and then let guests leave you notes. Or you and your significant other could write a sweet note to each other each morning, till it filled up the whole wall. Or you could use it to keep grocery lists and notes about where you last had to park the car. :-)

LOVE the house. :) I know the owners, and it's been so fabulous to see where the live through one of my favorite blogs.

My favorite is the green and grey guest room - i love how the colors fill the space and the sheen of the fabric plays well with the light.

i haven't owned a tv in a long time so no problem there.

as far as computer...since all of my family is out of state i pretty much live for the daily blog/facebook posts we share that keep me in touch with their daily lives! (today, i got to see a photo of my 1 yr old neice eden's case of 'bed-head' after her nap - adorable!) I would miss out on a lot without modern technology. :)

but i totally agree about cutting out media that serve only a 'single direction' entertainment function.

I posted in my own blog about a similar solution recently: http://citylivingsmall.com/2010/03/29/bye-bye-dishes

I found I always avoid washing the dishes, and came to realize it was because I had too many, and let them stack up too far.

After giving most of the dishes away, I feel very relieved!
