I gave up animal foods when I realized that I could never really be sure of the source and didn't want to pay for it either. Even if I went to the farm to get the meat myself, I had to acknowledge that it's just not sustainable. I might feel better about my choices, but with 10 billion animals slaughtered per year, how can everyone eat that way?

Oh, Jeni's book is just incredible. Best ice cream I ever made. I wish someone would come up with some vegan ice cream recipes that could stand up to hers.

I also prefer Rapunzel vegetable bouillon. I haven't found a store bought vegetable stock that I like (too sweet).

Yes, I certainly will be adopting a turkey. While it won't mean much to the 46 million birds slaughtered for the holiday table, it will help the Farm Sanctuary's fine work. Thank you for your post.

I love Joanne Chang's "Flour." It's more of a personal collection than a comprehensive one, but it includes a wide range of treats, from cookies, cakes, muffins, scones, pastries and breads. The baking instructions and tips are excellent.
