Such a bummer -- Floragrubb doesn't deliver like a regular florist. I would love more SF recommendations.

Weird we're exact opposites. I'd have a Grover any day, but pass on Elmo.

Thanks for this great post. I like how you mix up data and your own personal experience and ideas on parenting.

I try to be careful with all these sites. I'm a huge fan of Fab.com and Groupon, but they can create a buying frenzy if you're not careful. I open up a window with Mint and my 401K too. It helps me to keep some focus on the longer-term, even if it is less interesting that 75% off cashmere socks and spa treatments.

I proudly own three Navy chairs and two Emeco-Stark bar stools. Yes, they are an investment. We had to save to afford them and collect them over time. I considered getting knock-offs and was tempted, but decided I could wait a while longer and save up. I don't want to be a snob, but I promise the real deal is worth striving for.

These authentic chairs are perfectly balanced, expertly built with perfect balance and proportion. They will be something that will retain their value to sell or to pass on to someone else. Now I can immediately tell the difference between the wannabes and the real.

Also, when you support Emeco, you're supporting a small American manufacturer. Since I also work at a small design-rlated business, that is important to me.

I just hung a huge Nelson saucer pendant in my relatively tiny dining area. As soon as I saw how big the box was, I felt sick to my stomach. I was sure it was a mistake, but it looks amazing! It has transformed our space and pulls everything together. The Nelson pendant also gives of an amazing sunny quality of light.

We just got new sofas from Room & Board and have been strategizing how to protect our cat. We first spent hours sitting on the sofas and sprayed him with water bottles as soon as he got near them.

Since we knew that he does not like furry or fuzzy surfaces, we now wrap the sofas with cheap fake fur blankets from Target. A couple times a week we spray the fake fur blankets with a cat-repellant spray we got at a pet food store.

We also bought him a cat bed with a catnip insert. I didn't think the cat would go for it, but he loves it. Having his own personal spot seems to calm him down.

He is 12 years old and I didn't think that old cats learned new tricks, BUT I am amazed at how well this as worked for us. And I am so glad. It would be horrible to see our cat ruin this new stuff.

I think that the "honeysuckle" color of the year is commenting on what's trending and in stores now.

What Aaron is saying is that he's seeing green as what's next. Trends often come from the higher end and filter down to more mass, less expensive items.

This is such an interesting photo. I've wondered about using a floor lamp next to a bed. I think it most cases it would look odd, but this pic proves that it can work in the right space.

I've always wanted to try it too. I feel like I saw a 60 Minutes segment about standing or being on a treadmill while you work?

Anywho, I'd give it a shot.

@kelynn I tried this with blueberries in the cake, working from the C&Z recipe, and it didn't work well for me. Too moist and a very extended baking time, but I would like to explore this more.

I am anti-snap but pro trimming or peeling. The ends can be very woody. Testing them out is a great excuse to eat a couple of stalks raw to find the right place to trim.

Conde Nast has done some single issue magazines where the advertiser didn't have control over the editorial: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/12/business/media/12adco.html

And I'm dreaming of the special insert Gourmet did a few years ago, sponsored by a single advertiser -- I think. It had some work by amazing writers and photographers. I wish I could find a link to it.

This is really cute. Like it a lot -- and I am not the biggest novelty pan fan. I really like that it seems to take only a minimal amount of icing and piping to make it look good. I just might have to give this one a try.

I second the roasted carrots! Love them with toasted hazelnuts on top and some good olive oil. When you get these great greenmarket carrots, you don't even need to peel them first.

I had this LeCreuset stock pot for a time. The enamel really isn't much of benefit in a stock pot -- far more useful in a dutch oven.

I'd recommend an inexpensive stock pot until you can save up for one from Calphalon or AllClad.

Definitely treat yourself to a LeCreuset dutch oven sometime. They are amazing.
