I find it mind-boggling that readers of a site dedicated to creating interesting, beautiful living spaces include so many folks who neither make their beds, nor see why it's important. Seems a little like a person who loves to wear beautiful clothes, but never showers! Come on, people grow up!

This is a room I would love to live in! Bright but calm, detailed but uncluttered, textured but serene. Brava.

Everything about this room works for me except the dark quilt on the bed...it brings the whole palette down, down, down for me. Otherwise, great use of fresh, light color to balance the dark, rich wood. Good for you to reuse valued family pieces and make them work well for you!

I love how the TV disappears against the Navy Blue wall, hidden in plain sight!

Looks great but the living/dining/kitchen must be incredibly noisy with concrete floors, huge expanses of glass, and hardly any soft surfaces to absorb sound. Where do folks sit and talk? Sofa is isolated from the chairs, no tables to set a beverage on, no pillows to snuggle into. The Craftsman toolchests and the bannister as table base are brilliant ideas, but everything is hard, hard, hard.

Nice work! So pleasant to read comments with none of the snippy-snide remarks that usually populate this site. You ought to be very proud of what you accomplished with the help of your totally awesome dads.

Great ideas here! I have a jar on the dryer for all the stray coins that end up clanking around in there (used a screwdriver and hammer to make a slot in the metal lid.) Food storage of all kinds -- flour, sugar, rice, beans, spices from the bulk counter, salad dressing. I make and keep my hummingbird nectar using the peach jars that have cup measuring lines on them. Easy to measure and they can be microwaved to cook the sugar and water then mixed with cold water and used immediately or stored in the fridge until needed. I use them for flower vases for outdoor parties and of course, they're perfect for votives as others mentioned.
