I am Gen X and I garden, but I don't spend much money on it. This year, I spent $60 on my garden. I only have a small raised bed and a handful of pots and I'm only interested in growing edibles right now (okay, okay, I have a lily plant). We rent, and are going to have to tear out our lovely raised bed with soil that makes me proud this fall before we move in the spring. I think the real question in the garden industry should be is how do we capitalize on what Gen X and Y are interested in, container gardening, affordable, easy to care for plants, a little bit of the urban farmer thought, and a little nostalgia (someday, when I have a home, I will plant a peony bush). I must be honest, I garden mainly for nostalgia (I grew up on a farm and we had a half-acre garden and an orchard), and the elusive perfect tomato. I'm not good at gardening, and since I fail a lot, I don't want to sink a lot of money into a venture that doesn't have a fabulous outcome, veggie wise. But my spring salads and fresh thyme always make my kitchen a little happier.

I want to know more about their journey with their neighbors. How did they react, especially to the beehive? What did they say/do for their neighbors before/during/after introducing this stuff to the neighborhood? Did anyone in the neighborhood object, or was it all cool? I'm assuming they don't live in a place that has HOA's, but if they do, they are truly my heroes!
Unfortunately I live a semi-nomadic life, so this vision is kind of far off into the future for me.

I answer my parents phone when I'm at their home. Every other place on the planet, I absolutely do not answer the phone. I simply hate answering phones, so I avoid it at all costs.

I grew up in the country, where I was sung to sleep by crickets, at least in the summer (as long as they are not in the room with you, it's pretty soothing). Later in life I moved on to having Josh Groban sing me to sleep. Now our bedroom has a track of the Puerto Rican jungle playing on loop.

Shipping containers frequently become housing for troops while on deployment. I think anyone who has had to live in one of these in the desert with no insulation would shy away from living in one at home, no matter how nicely appointed.

A couple of summers ago, my husband and I were at an art fair where a guy was doing oil portraits (sketches, really) on the spot. We got both of us in separate paintings, and had them framed and hung in our living room. I love them, and I feel like they are less narcissistic than our wedding portraits that are also on display in out living room. It's a fun, personal addition to our art collection, a great memory, and a little goofy (my husband has a ball cap on in his portrait).

As soon as I get home, I am barefoot. But I wear Five Fingers 80% of the time I leave the house, so there's that. I hatehatehate having my toes scrunched together and I have boat feet (11 WW), so shoes and I have a problematic relationship.

Every dishwasher is a little different, but I never argue with anyone that loads my dishwasher, ever. I have read that some dishwasher manufacturers recommend not pre-rinsing dishes because the dishes actually get cleaner with some gunk left on them.

One of the things I enjoy about Apartment Therapy is that every day I see a new idea or technique. That said, I do also like some of the negative comments. If the paint you used is truly toxic, I would like to keep that in consideration if I think of doing a similar project, also if the paint does leach into the floor, I'd like to know that also. Sometimes I see a DIY project that I think is ugly, and seeing a comment that says so lets me know that my taste is shared with others. I believe in being kind, but posts that aren't all sunshine and rainbows are learning opportunities. We present ourselves in a very whitewashed way online, and it is helpful for your readers to have potential negatives listed.

I put them face down. I have more an issue with particulates in my glass than I do with the rim touching the cabinet.

I'm excited and bummed that rustic farmhouse is becoming so popular. Excited because it's totally my style. Bummed because I'm afraid that when I get my house together it will look like a dated trend.

Count me in the mopping crowd. There is a specific tapas place we go to on rare occasion, and every time we go we order the same dish (garlic shrimp) and we always ask for bread with it, because the sauce is the best part of the whole thing. Then it's me and my husband mopping out the same dish. It may be gauche, but it sure is enjoyable.

That would be awesome, except for when my husband and I will be separated we will be separated by around 12 time zones, so we will be sleeping on opposite schedules of each other.

Hey, if you invite me over, it's your party. I might not drink your beer or eat a dish you serve because I don't like it, but as long as the food is served in a hygenic way, I'm cool. That said, if you come to my house, I will try to scrounge up proper wine glasses for all, because proper glasses do make a diffference when it comes to wine in my world.

I started taking AB with a grain of salt the day I made one of his Good Eats recipes (done HIS way), and discovered that I preferred my mom's technique. I think he's too much of a hard ass about techniques. Food is personal, and although it is "correct" to eat scrambled eggs cooked softly, I can't stand them that way. So I'm coming down on the side of saying he's got a point, but the man also tends to be a pedant.

We have a Nook and several bookshelves filled with books, mostly unattractive paperbacks. I like both, but since the Nook is my husbands, I read mostly paper books. And we still don't have enough space for all of the books we bought at Borders going out of business sale. We move semi frequently but we haven't even managed to pare down the double copies of books that both my husband and I bought before we got married. I don't even think I buy books that frequently, recent acquisitions notwithstanding.
Anyway, we use ereaders and will continue to do so, but physical books will never leave our home.

I love seeing different ideas, and I'm sure this house id perfect for the owner, but I would never be able to get over feeling like I'm living in a garage.

The rich red velvet takes that living room from stark and imposing to lush and inviting! I was just thinking today how I may never get away from white walls and that's okay by me even though I LOVE color!

I have never got a security deposit back, and as each time I moved out of a place, my ex-landlord was always at least two states away and/or a corporately owned complex, each time I considered the time and effort it would take to reclaim the deposit as more valuable than the actual deposit.
