AT posted the "Shoes on or Shoes off" debate in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and now 2011.
Why another post about this hot topic?

This is a model unit, hence, the neutral decor and furniture placement. Which shows potential renters the capability of a dining area, a functional and really nice kitchen, relaxing area inside and outside and a good size bedroom w/a closet. As far as the West Elm comments, i thought that's what most AT readers was about West Elm, Ikea and other such designs. Don't most of AT readers rave about the Ikea hack thing. I just think the readers are overly critical of a showcase rental, plus i would think that the actual spaces for rent are empty and waiting to be decorated by the renter.

If,most of you don't like RH offerings or the huge source book. Why are you on the mailing list or visiting the website to view their items?

I think your cabinets are a honey blond oak, i have the same and hate them. I've wanted to paint them for 10 years. But the hubs thinks it goes against nature to paint wood. I have convinced him to at least consider refacing the cabinets w/a lighter wood, not sure when that will happen, since he also doesn't believe in hiring contractors.

Maybe that is an option for you to have them refaced, not sure about the cost.

@karacooks-
As someone who lives in Arizona, I'm hoping that you could share some tips that your parents acquired while they lived here w/out ac. We are heading into 110+degree days for 3 months straight and our evaporative cooler is no longer effective.
While we utilize ceiling fans and close all blinds during the days we are away,we still haven't figured out how to cool the house to a comfortable temp w/out the ac.Also, how did they cool the 7ft high concrete block walls surrounding the property, the concrete driveway and all the desert landscape rocks that release@ night all the 110+ heat absorbed during the day. We haven't figured that out either. And we would like to cool those things w/o using precious desert water.Thanks in advance for any tips provided :)

Homemade is usually much better than boxed, if someone else cooks it. So, it's boxed for me, I hate cooking with a passion.

Those are great alternatives, but really nothing beats a wood burning fireplace. How I would love to have one.

I agree with the warm earthy colors of autumn for flowers and foliage. It really doesn't get very cold where I live, only really cool. So, lots of candles in the colors and scents of autumn works well for at least setting a warm and cozy atmosphere.

I actually liked the before better, only because I don't like open shelving, clutter out of sight and out of mind. Also, are your items not affected by cooking (grease, smoke, steam, etc),that would drive me crazy.

Seems like too much "stuff" to dust and clean. Too much color on the upholstery, but the workmanship looks great.

I love my stainless steel appliances and wouldn't want anything else, however, number 3 and 15 are nice and tasteful.
