oh Dot--I don't know if you'll ever read this but I loved your comments!! As a pre-PhD and daughter of 2 professors I laughed and laughed--and made a note to use my library card more, get rid of some books, and sort through my insecurities :)

Help. please! I have a vintage fiberglass chair (knock-off of a Saarinen tulip arm chair) and my toddler got fiberglass stuck in her from it. I love it dearly but I also love my daughter. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to get rid of the chair? Thanks!

Loverly! Funny, my daughter's playspace in the living room is set up almost exactly like yours..

Tip though--I think the bathroom needs some art!

This is how I feel about the kitchen! If the kitchen is a mess my head is a mess--if it is clean I could be knee deep in clutter and I would feel sane.

The first thing I do when I move is make everything perfect in the kitchen--I even hang the curtain!

No offense but I love my sterlite bin from the container store. It was $12, it has lasted forever, it has latches to hold a bag, and when it gets dirty I through it in the shower with a little dish detergent and it looks brand new.

I sew (=tons of fabric) and have some odds and ends for crafts (spray paint, scrapbooking, etc) and some tools and utility items. All of these items have to fit into containers and then onto shelves and be easily accesible (ie, no furniture items like special cabinets to store them). Any ideas?

I also don't have room for a formal sideboard but I would also like to store items for entertaining in such a fashion (napkin rings, cloth napkins, serving platters, serving utensils, etc.). I have my nice china in canvas china storage containers...does anyone know if they are ok being stored on a shelf? I would like to use them more...

Trumystique--

I am buying these shelves and my parents have had them holding heavy boxes in the garage for 20 years:

They can easily be configured into what you are talking about--and the desk shelf they have would be just the right size. They also come unfinished and can be painted or stained...at the very least you could use some pieces from it.

Donald brought up a moral argument--I was just responding. A house can be a decorating showcase and provide great, artistic inspiration that I actually did enjoy!! But that does not mean that someone cannot comment on other aspects that are brought up by the post.

AT is an appropriate place to have moral opinions and to share them--as long as they relate to our home, our built environment, and how we in turn relate to it. Re-nest is all about that!

I wasn't criticizing Donald, in fact, I went out of my way not to, I was only suggesting that the idea he had presented actually was acceptable to many people--presenting a perspective.

I don't believe nastiness is appropriate, but people need to people have opinions.

Actually, David, yes! I am not suggesting YOU do, but my personal ethos (one I believe to be in sync with a Judeo-Christian ethic) is that I should not have too much while others have too little to live--that is why in the Torah God instituted a law that every 7 years there would be a year of Jubilee and land would be redistributed--because God desired for all his children to have enough.

This doesn't mean I give everything away and live below the poverty line (though it does to some people--I have friends who do that). And I do splurge on things every once in awhile, but in general I try and avoid gross excess and give where I encounter need. I believe this place is an example of gross excess, in SFGail's words, "obscene."

I guess I just believe we are our brother's keeper.

Anyone know where I could buy a display shelf like this one? It is an antique on in the picture but I don't care whether it is new or old...

Thanks!!

agree with Mr. Dangerous. Also, in the knob department I lean towards anthropologie and renovationhardware...

Question--this is driving me crazy. You know the shelves that you hang in a kitchen to diplay plates and pitchers and such? They are like an open cabinet and have a bar across to keep things from falling out... I can't find one anywhere!! Please please help me....

Need some help. Moving into my new co-op and the current finished are mostly fake brass (chrome in the bathroom and stainless sink in the kitchen)

Eventually I would love to change all the fixtures but to start I have to rid myself of this:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100468874&N=500192 4294928468 10401010

I got over the chrome and glass fixture I was craving and settled on the below--please give me some feedback. Is it ugly? Will it clash horribly with all the brass? Thanks!

What a great list--some I do and some I will start doing! As a single mom I especially appreciate it because it always seems like there is so much to do and no one to help.

Agreed--finally some wow factor!! Very well done. I love that it feels so mixed in styles but that I can hardly recognize a single piece of your furniture--without it looking MCM as well...

I also love the "curated clutter" and the way the bedroom and living room share a similar style with the bedroom feelings more peaceful--as it should.

I have officially seen 3 entries that I like.

I very much like the space--I am sensing a lot of anthropologie? Is that correct or just similar? Also, can you id the overhead fixture in the kitchen?

Love the throw pillows in the living room, the lovely corals in the bedroom, and the lacquered kitchen cart--great pieces and it does looked pulled together over time and so lived in.

agree with rockypondgirl--well said.

BTW--this is in the awesome MOMA exhibit going on right now, I think titles "elasticity of the mind" or something like that. I saw it a few weeks ago and the vase is really beautiful.
