I just brought back some tamarind paste from Mexico. I'm going to try some of these ideas; they look great! My one tamarind venture thus far was to make Mixed Cherry Tomatoes with Tamarind Dressing (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Mixed-Cherry-Tomatoes-with-Tamarind-Dressing-105419)
to serve with steak. Then decided that dressing would be good on salads, rice, pasta, etc.

My dad brought me acorn squash from his garden and I was looking for a soup recipe for it. Voila! I found this soup, which I made last night while I passed out candy to the trick-or-treaters. It is delicious!! I know the leftovers will be even better and I'm wishing it were lunchtime right now. I finished the soup with a pat of butter for silkiness. For a garnish, I toasted some coconut and pumpkin seeds, which gave the soup a little crunch.

No contest: Make. Hands down. It tastes so amazing! You'll never get that flavor out of a box (or a can). People make a big deal about how much time and effort it takes to make stock. Bullocks, I say. You throw everything in a stockpot, and let it simmer for hours, filling your home with its amazing smell. Then it's done. However, when pressed for time, or out of homemade stock, I am very, very thankful for the store bought stuff. I may be a soup nazi, but I'm realistic too!! Enjoy, folks.

Try this amazing mac 'n cheese recipe. It's heaven in a bowl, complete with pancetta and truffle oil AND... boursin.

Brilliant idea to have a cushion in the laptop to protect it so the cat won't sleep on your keyboard (as mine always try to do), but can lean against the back of the laptop. I'm going to copy this.

Great idea, @ Adelia! I have some old towels that I've been hanging onto because it seems wasteful to get rid of them. But I am going to take them to the Humane Society for their Trap, Neuter, and Release program for feral cats. Thanks!!

I agree with 878lily801. I see correlation, not causation here. I've learned that I need 8 to 9 hours of sleep to function without being tired during the day. Any less on a day to day basis and I'm in trouble.

Some great ideas here! I teach university classes and a typical day for me includes rotating to three different locations on campus, so when I get a chance to sit in my office for a brief moment, I need quick meals. Often I only have time for several snacks throughout the day. To make that all feel more normal, I keep certain "stocks" on hand: mixed nuts and dried fruits, cheese and sparkling water in my fridge, chocolate, tea, a set of dishes and silverware, and a bright green coffee mug to use on those few occasions that I have 15 minutes to sit down to a hot beverage.

Lots of great ideas here! I find the demands of my job require me to plan my food for the day the way I did in grad school, so I'm still eating like this! My new find is the Blueberry Yogurt Parfait recipe at NY Times. I make it on the weekend, and carry it to work for the next few days. So good:
