First audit I had was a training audit--the guy's second audit of his life and the letter asked for. EVERYTHING. I REPEAT, EVERYTHING. After I had shredded a bunch after 9/11. I had to pay the effing bank for copies of the bank statements. He didn't look at them. I got a second audit after I moved from NY. One bank thing triggered it and it took a 28-page repsonse from my CPA and me. I've a business, IRA rollovers get messed up, had rental properties, etc. Count yer lucky stars ya haven't been audited. I never owed them anything but it's a PITA. Day 14: Get Papers & Files in Order Apartment Therapy January Cure |

What has helped is SECURELY storing documents online at siftsort.com [ https://www.siftsort.com/zooley/login/about.html gives a bit about the founders and you sign up at the button on the top]. You get an email account YourName@siftsort.com and email the bills, important papers, scanned or faxed, and they can be shared with your accountanct, financial advisors, family or whomever you choose through a secure link. Not like google can see what is in your email, etc., and send you ads on financial planning. Made life so much simpler when I did this. 2GB free storage if you don't want to pay for a dedicated personal fax line. Get it through your Merrill Lynch account if you have one. My bedroom was my January project, but I wasn't going to wash the bedding until today, by my cat helped me by peeing on the bed Saturday afternoon while I was out. I took her to the vet Tues and Fri. Her problem seems to have passed. Keep your fingers crossed, she's acting like her normal 16 year old self. Day 13: Weekend Chores - Flowers & Bedroom Apartment Therapy January Cure |

I bought 3 watercolors from an artist friend http://margygatesart.blogspot.com/ , got them framed and then had a delay hanging them. So I've hung them and get to see 2 of them every day when I wake up. This has gotten me to clean up the area around them. Plus, getting ready for tax time with papers, etc., with https://www.siftsort.com/zooley/jsp/account/login.jsp and also for medical records. Kim's January Cure: My First WeekJanuary Cure diaries |

For those of you organizing receipts and other documents, you can use https://www.siftsort.com/zooley/jsp/account/login.jsp to organize your important papers. I'm going to have to do it for my sister who has developed dementia, parents who have their litany of illnesses and their financial stuff. You can email your documents and have your bills go directly to your account via your own siftsort email so your regulare email doesn't get cluttered after you unsubscribe to everything. Very secure system to keep important stuff safe and accessible when you need it. Setting it up will take me a while since it's now for my whole family. But imperative now that my sister can't write her last name without help. A Lighter Start to 2013: Three (Easy) Projects to Tackle Now |

I put the orchids on the mantel to keep them safe from the cat. When I lived in NYC, no mantel, but 11 orchids w no flowers left after she played with them to death. I'm persistent and so was she, but she won that round. Day 3: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Floors, Green Cleaners & Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure - Day 3 |

I read about getting rid of mold with the cotton "rope" for haircoloring from the beauty supply store and dipping it in 50/50 water and bleach. Then you put the cotton rope around the bath tub or shower where it is moldy, tucking it in so it makes contact with the mold. Let it stay overnight or while you are at work, then ta da! Mold is gone. Liveblogging Day 1: Tara's List Liveblogging the January Cure |

For the commenter above asking about organizing paper, you can get a siftsort.com account and email or scan docs for the free account OR pay a monthly fee and get a dedicated fax number and FAX your docs to yourself. they are ugly if you get the standard crap from Home Depot or Lowes, but there are some nice ones out there. And they increase energy efficiency. Those crappy chandeliers HGTV and TLC shows don't do that. Apartment Therapy New York | Renters' Solution: Ceiling Fan in a Light Socket |
