While I don't have any experience with 1password I'd be somewhat hesitant since they rely on the AES encryption algorithm which has theoretical flaws which could lead to issues in the future.

Not to be a fanboy but Keepass is free and uses the SHA algorithm which doesn't have any known attacks against.

Good article, as always there's a relevant XKCD comic (http://xkcd.com/936/) that does a good job explaining the math behind password strength.

Two other options I've found for managing passwords are Keepass (open source and free) and IronKey personal edition. Both these options allow you to centrally manage different passwords and do so in a secure manner, just be sure to chose a strong enough master password.

Really? Calibrating an SSD is pretty much turning off defrag for Windows when you're running your SSD in IDE mode?

This type of article seems to be posted just to meet a daily quota and is a big turn off.

@kevin331

I'm calling bs on the whole Thermal Paste ("putty") being more efficient when it's warm. While thermal paste usually takes a couple of days to stabilize from initial application the variance thermal performance variance is typically only a few degrees.

@Jason Yang - Thermal paste would beat back up to "efficient level" within minutes of starting your computer.

Believe it or not some people (myself included) like living in a space that's clean and bright. Luckily when you're a grown up you're able to spend your money on a house that makes you (and not a bunch of people on the internet) happy.

I think these points miss the mark.

1. Ok, seems like good advice but who really keeps multiple components anyways? Yes, there are audiophiles who are frequently trying out new equipment but besides reviewers does anyone have multiple amps, more than one pre-amp, or more than one dac hooked up to their system?

2. Ok I guess you can pick either silver or black and stick to components but if you're a true video/audiophile the last thing you care about is if the faceplate is black or silver. If you're going to stick to a single color you might as well just buy parts from the same mfr.

3. Better cables? Better than what, coat hangers? How can you have a subjective suggestion when you don't even know what kind of cables I have.

Rather than the three tips above to keep a good look here is what I would recommend to achieve a clean home theater look.

1. Put your audio equipment in a credenza/sideboard. Alternatively you can put everything in a dedicated closet (popular with the video crowd). If you're running Class A amps that get too hot then you're probably not going for the minimalist look.

2. Use the correct length cables. While this applies first and foremost to speaker cables it also makes sense for your other components. You don't want a massive coil of speaker wire hanging around so either make your own cable or buy a correct length one from monoprice.

3. Pick the pieces you want to accent. Do you want to show off your speakers, your monoblock power amps, your tv, or your Knoll credenza? You should decide what you want to highlight and what should blend in with everything else.

The key to good espresso lies more in the grinder than the espresso machine. You need a burr grinder to get a consistent grind size without burning the beans. Macap and Mazzer are two brands to start looking at for a good grinder.

While it might not be to everyone's taste I would love to see more of the inside. I use to live just down the street and still live in the neighborhood, I can't think of a more interesting modern house that I've seen in lincoln park.

Miele makes great vacuum cleaners so I imagine their washer and dryers are pretty nice as well. It's the first vacuum cleaner that doesn't drive me nuts from noise and it has incredible suction.

I'd probably hold off buying a current generation Intel SSD since they next generation are due out shortly. Also far cheaper alternatives, such as the OCZ Vertex 2, offer similar performance.

I hope no one would ever consider waking up early and waiting in line for anything monster cable related. Not sure about anyone else but most of these deals are so-so, I think slickdeals or fatwallet has had a better deal on almost everything on this page over the past year without having to get up early or camp out.

Another article where the title and content are poorly matched. Buying from Dell is not "building a high end workstation". Buying from Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc is going to result in the same price. However if you're going to actually build your own workstation you can certainly save some money (especially at the high end). Of course this is assuming you don't mind fixing it if it breaks and you're not out serious money if you're without a computer for a day.

you should probably save up and buy the real thing. buying a reproduction won't give you the same satisfaction and you're not giving money to the design... oh wait this is about artwork and not reproduction furniture, nevermind.
