Either printing (potato or Gocco if you have one) or have you thought about buying some embroidery thread and trying it that way?

I think it's eye-catching, but I find the all white canvas, irritating at best.

I have some very tiny art work (4x4") and it looks amazing with a lavender silk mat cut to 16X20" in a larger plien air (gold leaf) frame.

I believe you can absolutely play with scale and really draw attention to art that is small (but arresting/powerful) by framing it with larger mats/frames.

Sadly could have come off better with a slightly smaller frame, or using inexpensive acrylic paints and toning the brilliant white of the canvas down a tad. Or better yet, use said paints and do something ala Pollock or some other modern artist.

I love softboiled eggs too!

Finding the cups for them was difficult. I finally settled for some plain white ceramic ones that look like flowers-not my favorite. I found them at the crate and barrel outlet in Alexandria. The design isn't my favorite, I'd prefer something as sleek as an egg...but they'll do for now.

I think it's probably for the best that the prints didn't work out in that space. That much sunlight would really fade them (unless you spent the extra money on UV glass in the picture frames).

I love how the space looks! I will look into the cable management box you mentioned.

Is that a Tord Bontje cover on the light?

I'm assuming this is the Cambridge house? Man I'd love to see it in person. I also should wander over to Georgetown and see the house on Olive Street as well.

Creepiest was discovering during our reno/demo that the stairs connect straight through with out neighbors...meaning we could have broken into to their place (or vice versa) since there was no drywall or plaster seperating the stairs. We put up insulation on the common wall and between the joist which helps with sound mitigation.

Now it's only the cats that wig out when they hear the neighbor's dog running up and down the stairs. I bet they think the mice are HUGE next door.

My biggest house fears are going into basements or into attics. No idea why but I am just not brave that way. Other's have to go first so the murderers or monsters get to hit them first. Honest (I like to say no matter how scary I am right behine you!).

I believe the rocking chairs are by EMECO. I was looking at their site several weeks ago and saw them there.

I take classes at the Art League in Alexandria with Robert Liberace. He's a great teacher and I've learned a lot in the year I've studied with him.

There are some wonderful teachers there and people in my class come in as far away as Front Royal VA, Fredrick MD and Baltimore. They offer a variety of fine arts classes in sculpture, painting, drawing and fabric arts. They also reach out to the local community by supporting A Space of Her Own project which reaches out to local young girls.

Consider losing the french/double doors at the entry.

This could give you a little more floor space (or install them so they open into the other room/hall.

If you were going for white bookcases-it would make sense to do the ikea thing and add molding-but for dark and sherlockian look (is that a word?) I'd go with darker wood like everyone else recommended with molding at the floor and crown at the ceiling.

Sounds stupid, but one of my happiest investments is in high quality sheets and a linen duvet with shams for my down pillows. Bed time is a welcome nest and I often snuggle there while reading a books. Expensive initial outlay but well worth the expense because they make me both feel good and happy.

My other major expenses are computers and art work; the rest I could leave tomorrow (would need the sheets/duvet and pillows though) and live happy where ever I go.

I spent time deployed in Saudi and in Baghdad so trust me, the bedding is important and the art feeds the soul!

There is a small fabric store that carries beautiful upolstrey fabric on King Street. The store (if you're heading towards th river) is about a block west of Union Street on your right.

There is a house that is 2 doors from Henry Street (soutbound highway 1) that has all 3 floors filled with fabric rolls. I have yet to figure out who owns it or why it's so full of fabric.
