How about trying this...
I would get some furniture paste wax and give it a really good buffing and cleaning... freshing it up.. I would remove the things you have in the cabinet now and replace them with pieces that match the green in the drapes (the colour you want to paint it) Live with that for a while then make the decision about painting.

I would not open all the walls... I am not a big fan of "open concept" (wheres the fun in sneaking a cookie if all can see?) But I would open the arches by squaring them off and making them taller. That may give the feeling of more open but not sacificing a sense of defined spaces... just a thought.

Beat the eggs, add a touch of water, salt and pepper... put them in a pan with a bit of butter over a medium low heat (is that a temperature?) the stir them with chopsticks.. Put them on the plate while they are still a little underdone, they will finish cooking on the plate...thats my favorite way of making scrambled eggs!
