i once read somewhere that it's helpful to tell yourself the night before that you want to wake up early in the morning. i mean, really think about it! and then i guess your subconscious is thinking about waking up on time while you sleep, so that it's easier to wake up when the alarm first goes off.

Can I ask where the small wooden shelves in the kitchen are from, and also the big wooden bookshelf in the living room? Nice place!

I can't believe some of you, saying that the "proper" response would be to just eat whatever is put in front of you. Do you realize how incredibly offensive that is? As someone who hasn't eaten meat in almost ten years, I would get sick if I ate any now because my body just wouldn't be able to handle it. But you're saying that I should just suck it up so as not to be offensive?
If it were any other kind of lifestyle choice, would you say the same thing? Like if you brought your children to a playdate and the host started playing an inappropriate movie, would you just ignore it and let them watch it? I hope not.

thank you all for the suggestions! i'm going to look into each one, but i'm liking the eye mask idea. so simple, but i never even thought of it.

(the first thing we did was ask them to install a dimmer light, but they need the bright light so their 90 million kids can play basketball until 2am.... )

@slowdown: i, myself, have horrible allergies, complete with nasal polyps and sinus infections. i know what it's like to have a drippy, snotty nose. for someone who suffers from allergies, tissues are even sillier to use because it's a constant rubbing of paper on a very sensitive area. i know you've all experienced that raw under-nose area after having a cold. it's from using too many tissues. a cloth handkerchief does not do nearly as much damage.

@birdablaze: why would you even think of washing one handkerchief by itself? that would be stupid. just stick it in a load you're planning to do anyway, obviously. tissues, greener? right. just think of all the energy used to produce them.

the point is, why buy and use something you're going to use once and throw away instead of something you can use indefinitely and will work even better. it just doesn't make sense.

i don't feel it's excessive in the least. do you use paper towels to dry off after a shower? no. you use towels because they're more effective and more efficient.
tissues are simply disposable pieces of paper, and the only reason to use them is laziness.
and, unlike tissues, the brilliant thing about a handkerchief is that it can be washed, preventing "a huge pile" of mess.

how silly. tissues are nothing but a shameful waste.
why not get some cloth handkerchiefs that will last indefinitely, plus feel a lot nicer on the nose?

yes, these are all ridiculously priced. but the fact that people actually spend so much money on something that holds dirty clothes is even more ridiculous.
