The best reason for a toilet lid cover -- noise!! When you live with people (males) who SLAM the toilet lid against the toilet tank at 4:00 a.m. The one you have looks fine --at least it's not the old nylon plush kind! Don't listen to anyone else. Your bathroom looks great! And your guest was rude. Make him sit on your coverless toilet seat with a bare bottom and eat his tin tray of supper the next time he comes over. You people have way too many rules. Carpet is warm and soft on the feet. It doesn't move around like rugs. Have you ever stepped out of your tub and ended up on your butt? I rest my case. (And if you're OCD you're constantly moving that area rug back into place so it lines up right.) Carpet is cheap -- replace it every year or too. Tile is cold, cold, cold! About the sprinkle issue -- all you have to do is trim the carpet back, about 4" in a semi-circle around the base of the toilet -- OR men should learn to AIM!
