I like the white! It's looks so bright and clean. If you paint a fresh white or tone there of, you have lots of playroom for carpeting, drapes, pillows and decorative items in color. If you paint a color you will have to take it into account as a "scheme" for your accessories.

Have to admit to cleaning in the nude as well, painting too. Always finish up by scrubbing the shower then myself. Everything's clean and me too!

If I had life threatening food allergies, I'd probably opt out. Human error could make for a tragedy. If it was me I'd then enjoy inviting others to my place and everyone could relax and have fun.

As a host I would be very appreciative if someone let me know that they have dietary needs. I wouldn't be offended at all by someone bringing what they can eat in order to be able to participate if I was unable to meet their needs.

Since I don't often invite people I'm not comfortable with to my home, I would offer to have them come by early with their offering. We could then, together, make it a part of the meal and no one would be the wiser. Otherwise, if it's very special and only for that person, again, come early and I'll be able to serve you in such a way it is not a point of discussion to make you uncomfortable.

I once read a definition of etiquette I quite liked. It was simply, to be able to make people comfortable in any situation. Not always possible, but something to aspire to.

Simplify.

white toilet seat a must

white canvas curtains at the window and if you can do over the shower door on a tension rod, great!

white towels

sorry about the mirror, block it out in your mind!

I would also do a small tension rod with white canvas curtains under the sink to cover the dark brown wood.

Maybe buy something you really love to put on the back of the toilet. Something that will attract attention and speak to you mid-century style. An Alvar Aalto vase in black? Oh, that's from my wish list ; ).

Good luck!

Ideas to Improve Marble Covered Bathroom?Good Questions | Apartment Therapy New York

Sounds like a great idea to me. I renovated my NYC bathroom entirely with 12x12 tiles on the floor and walls up to the ceiling and love it. It actually makes the space look bigger.

I went with a classic grid pattern with the smallest grout lines possible.

Looking at your bathroom, would you consider a stone tile? The one benefit we have with small bathrooms is a smaller amount of tile! A granite or marble would make a special accent in your bathroom and will make the white stand out nicely.

Good Luck!

great space! I'm with the folks that advise fewer regular size pieces of furniture will actually make the space look bigger and be more comfortable as well. I've done this myself.

You don't need much.

Sofa, bed, tall storage piece (armoir type) table (think about counter height) and 2 chairs. Big art, Big mirror. I might also avoid rugs as they tend to chop up a space. Just cozy runners on either side of the bed.

Enjoy!!

I have to say I love this.

At first glance I thought it was a gut reno. Then I realized that it was a very clever change that completely transformed the space into something new, bright and modern. To me that's the most interesting. Anyone can gut a space, not everyone can be creative and clever enough to make it look like they did.

Bravo!

P.S. This may sound a bit over the top, but I'd also take into account the color of your car(s). They will be a strong part of your curb appeal when you are home.

I know, I know, but these are the things that keep me up at night. ; )

Very cool house, congratulations. Since you're in the SF area, even in this economy I'm guessing this is a pricey house. It's really beautiful and interesting.

I'd go a more subtle, updated route, rather than kitch. Do you want to live in kitch? If so, go for turq.

The brick is great. It looks like there are many earthtones in it. I might go with one of the deeper tones in the brick. Pop the brick, it's the best feature, gives you those long horizontal lines.

Then I'd save up for a horizontal paned, frosted glass door and paint it something that will coordinate calmly with your house color choice.

Good Luck!

Congrats on your wonderful chairs. I'm sure you'll enjoy them for years to come.

I think the idea of a more rustic table is right on. Since you're in NY, check out "Old Good Things", which is near Union Square. They have a great selection of reclaimed wood farm tables. Any size you need, either in stock or they will make one up for you. Same or better prices than CnB.

I got one to go with my DCW chairs.

I have mirrored backsplashes in my small NYC kitchen and love them. They open the space, add light and are easy to clean, spritz and wipe. It's not so easy to get tomato sauce out of the grout of a tiled backsplash. You also end up wiping the splatter into the grout unless you clean the tiles individually. Love 'em.

IMO this begins in the womb.

Mom's tend to clean up more for their boys than their girls. In general girls are taught the basics of housekeeping and are praised for doing so. Not so much with boys. Most of the guys I went to college with didn't even have any idea how to do laundry. Everything is much more of a chore if you don't know how to do it efficiently. Just my opinion...
