Ooh... I was just planning on painting my front door red on the outside, but seeing as the accent color in my living room is already red, I might just go ahead and do the whole thing! Red Doors on the Inside |

Definitely Mo Willems' Pigeon books! Although I think they're even more amusing to me as an adult than they would have been when I was a kid, joining the ranks of "Fraggle Rock" and "The Adventures of Pete and Pete" as things meant for kids that I appreciate infinitely more as a grown-up. The biggest challenge I've encountered was with the hedgehog I had back in college. Since they are desert animals, they need a relatively warm environment (at least 72 degrees Farenheit), which wasn't a problem when I was in a dorm room and not paying for the heat. When I'd take her home to my parents' house for winter break, they typically kept the house at 68 degrees and she'd attempt to hibernate. For those few weeks she wound up in her own bedroom with a space heater. :-P All Creatures Great and Small: Designing with Less Expected Pets in Mind |

That depends entirely on which bookcase and which room. The living room bookcase is mostly classics (Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, etc.). Cookbooks on the top shelf on the baker's rack in the kitchen. The den/library has one shelf with biography, drama and nonfiction, a bookcase with chick lit on the top shelf, mystery novels and sci-fi in the middle and children's books on the bottom, and another that is a catch-all for general fiction, with autographed books. The autographed books are a really random assortment of genres - a first edition of Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow that was a wedding gift from my bridesmaids, a signed copy of The Pigeon Wants a Puppy by Mo Willems that was a Valentine's Day gift from my husband, and copies of The Pluto Files and Awakenings, from when I met Neil deGrasse Tyson and Oliver Sacks, respectively. My living room is 13x17, and I think my 32" TV is about as big as we could go without it being an eyesore. I don't like the idea of the TV being the focus of the room, and I think anything bigger than that would overwhelm the space. The Growing HDTV Screen Size Trend |

I agree with the earlier commenter who appreciated that none of these libraries have books arranged by color. I like to go back and re-read old favorites, and I lend out books fairly frequently, so for me by genre and alphabetical by author (or subject if it's a biography) is the way to go. If I had to pick favorites here, I think I'd say photos 1,3,6 and 10 are my favorites. I think libraries should be warm, cozy places, and those are the ones that would make me want to curl up with a book the most. :-) Restful Repositories: 10 Charming Home Libraries |

I think one of my favorite home decor related gifts so far was from my best friend/maid of honor. After my wedding, she had her bridesmaid bouquet dried and had the petals put into a couple of Christmas ornaments. So pretty, original, AND sentimental! Safe Bet Gifts For The Home-Minded |

@becster.henrich - I loooove Noritake Colorwave! Our everyday china is Colorwave in graphite. I love the floral accent plates from that line, they're so pretty. :-) They are a bit pricy (if I recall correctly, the Colorwave place settings cost more than our fine china!), but they've held up so well, they can really take a beating! @Pi - You're an excellent example of someone for whom e-books make perfect sense. I'm not against them as a whole, but the expense of an e-reader isn't worth the benefit for me (I drive 10 minutes to work. I think local law enforcement would frown on my reading during my commute!). For you, on the other handle, it's a worthwhile investment, as it enables you to read in a situation where it would otherwise be impossible/impractical. Like AnnaBe, I haven't noticed this trend at my local farmers' market. I live in northwestern NJ, and I find that most of the produce at my farmers' market is about the same price, often even cheaper than, the produce at the grocery store. Once in a great while something will be a bit more expensive. Are Restaurants Causing the Price of Farmers Market Veggies to Soar? |

I can't seem to make the switch to e-books. Probably because there's no real advantage for me to do so. I can buy a used copy of a physical book for less than it costs to buy an e-book. If it's not something I want to own, I can borrow it from my library. If it's not at my library, I can almost invariably get it through interlibrary loans. It's just not worth it for me to buy an e-reader. Keeping Your Favorite Books at Home FT Magazine |

I'd miss the formal dining room! My house technically has an eat-in kitchen, but instead of putting in a big table we bought a stainless steel utility table and a couple of matching stools, so it serves as a breakfast bar, and also as extra counter space. How We'll Live in 2020 |

Oh, what rotten timing! I just used a towel to clean off the ceiling fan over the bed last night. Got dust everywhere. If only I'd held off for another day. :-P Hot Tip: Use a Pillow Case to Clean Your Ceiling Fan Simply Stated |

No, not now! But when my husband and I moved into our first place, a one-bedroom apartment with the only AC unit in the living room, we spent many a summer night on the couches because the bedroom was just too darn hot. Would You Switch Bedrooms Seasonally? |

I use coupons sometimes, but mostly for non-food groceries, like cleaning supplies, tissues, etc. I'm pretty sure the only food we consistently use coupons on is cereal. But during the warmer months we get a lot of our food at the local farmers' market, where coupons are useless to us. Clip Clip: Couponing and Green Living |

I can't get on the e-reader bandwagon either. Reading is too much of a tactile experience for me - the musty smell of an old book, the feel of the pages between my fingers... There's also the fact that a paper book doesn't run out of battery power. ;-) Novel Ideas: Creative Ideas for the Books In Your Life |

When I first moved into my house 2 years ago, my aunt sent me a couple of African violets. I regularly forget to water them, but they're still going strong! So I'd add them to the list as well. :-) Long-lasting, Easy Care Plants for Black Thumbs |
