Thats a sweet little piece of Drexel from the Declaration line designed by Kipp Stewart, its an early model from the handles -- the date should be encrypted on the back -- look for a 5 or 6 with numbers before and after and that will be the manufacture date -- 1057 would be made in Oct 57. A matching sideboard just sold for 450.00 on ebay, I would assume the buffet would be worth a little more.

most stores from ikea to room and board have what you want -- spend a day shopping! I have always seen lots of low platform beds at scandanavian stores.
My only suggestion is in small spaces storage is always an issue, look for something that has built in drawers for a little extra storage.

a rug, a tablecloth, a picture, you are on your way. i saw a shadowbox of vintage utensils, very inexpensive and clever way to fill wall space. thrift stores usually have boxes full of them.

Pull the table out or foot or two so its not so smashed in the corner and put something decorative in the corner so its not so hard. a tall plant, floor vase with twigs,

an inexpensive sofa table or buffet table along the back wall would work well as a place to start a collection of serving pieces you love. you could also put two table lamps on it and shut off that awful overhead.

Guess I should explain how you find a white color -- when you go the paint store find a paint that has multiple colors on one card arranged dark to light -- they usually have the brightest colors in one row, with more muted shades going down. Pick a color from the brightest (in your case warms would be oranges, reds, purples) and track it down to the lightest shade possible. if its not white enough feel free to ask someone what would be similar but lighter. There should be full time staff that should be able to help you.
Most paint companies have online tools for you to play with too -- here is one for Olympic and its got whites in the far column -- rose dust, milk and cookies, love bird, lol. i want that job.

I had a roommate that painted the dining room black -- the solution given by the pros (painters, not store sales people) was to use Kilz. You can get it at walmart.
What color your stuff is depends on what color white you want. You don't want a warm if your stuff is blues, greens, birch, nickel, etc. Warms are tough because you don't want something remotely pink. I did a gray-purple and it was really a good neutral.

Living in 450 sq ft myself I understand the challenge, and you did an exceptional job. Not much on the kitchen renovation, its a little cold compared to the vintage comfort of the rest.

Its a couple cats, not nuclear bombs being dropped in your yard. Time to grow up some. You can't play NIMBY in everyone else's country. Consider them your charge and feed them.

I have open shelving in my kitchen and bohlman wash tubs make great storage bins. the matching colander and dish rack are pretty handy too.

its supposed to frame the window -- like fake shutters, or as we used to call them "faux shutairres". its the same as adding a silent e to a perfectly good word like point. or calling something a landing that isn't.
imho they hung them way too high too -- its supposed to be a visual trick to make a window bigger -- but you really don't have to do that when you have a window is already big.
i am much more horrified at how overly matchy it is. the the carpet literally matches the drapes. and the ceiling.

there are things called "air coolers" that work great as long as it doesn't get over 90 inside and its basically just a fancy fan that blows across ice and uses a very small fraction of the electric an ac does.

@mira123 a neighbor of mine has a bianchi avenue which is manufactured with low uprights converted with high uprights. i don't think it would be as easy to convert a bike with drop bars though -- ask at the bike shop -- they are pros and don't just talk a good game like car dealers.

@ylime99 i have had a couple bianchis -- good bikes. i would up the parco to the cita -- it comes with a rack designed for it and 5 more speeds for an extra 100. lots of bikes are offering already added add ons -- the more the better. like a previous poster mentioned pick it up and see if you want to haul it up five floors. i can't tell you how many times you want to haul your bike up and down stairs to keep it safe and by your side.

ugh -- apartment therapy spam! cho yung must die!

the ikea ps cabinets are probably the best buy in the universe -- they are remarkably versatile as long as you don't fill a room with them.

i usually HATE the lane dove-tail furniture -- you manage to mix it up enough i can still love you.

the multiple stools as a console/plant stand is pure awesomeness. love the mcm chair (once again -- brown naugahyde isn't my thing -- but you pull it off) , your pup is awful cute too.

i am usually a mcm snob -- you do a great mash up though.

I think its great space -- all the art really personalizes it. The matching/mismatched cabinetry helps to bring the place together. its much better than if it were all woodtone or white. i don't think most people make an effort to notice these things. You also did a good job with neutralizing a low ceiling with the higher up art.

i am not getting with all the ikea comments -- EVERYONE on here has ikea something or other -- welcome to the 21st century. R&B and DWR are a little out of reach for those of us that aren't day traders.

if you can't say something nice at least be good at it.

i always thought navy chairs were great thrift finds at 5. 10 each -- don't exactly like the fact a company that murders its employees for trying to establish unions has its name emblazoned on it either.
