This is my dream come true! We remodeled/relandscaped with this in mind as the end goal.

From simple to extravagant instructions/ideas etc. check out: http://backyardtheater.com/

Couple of other ideas:

1) I noticed locally that the parks and rec announced their summer line up of movies (G/PG rated) in the parks for the summer. Even more fun, they included a couple of showings at the local pool.

2) I work for a rather large company that has a Help Desk. Employees can check out resources - such as a laptop projector. For a small crowd (i.e. family) - because sound will be limited, you can have a pretty decent picture project when using your computer to play the dvd.

3) I don't know how much they cost, but I have seen pictures of blow-up movie screens which would provide a better picture than a sheet. Very similar in concept to the blow-up bounce houses you rent for kids parties.

I love-love-LOVE the outdoor movie concept!

My first thought was shutters of some sort - barnstyle, bifold. Even with the peaked shape, if the shutters were bi-fold, you would get the same shape of shutter when they were folded in half in the open position. This may be an awkward solution as it appears that one side is closer to an oposing wall (90 degree corner) and the opposite side of the window allows some flat wall space.

My second idea was to create some sort of whimsy by fashioning an interior awning, triangular in shape mimicking the shape of the top of the window. Then you could drop some nice drapes from under the awning, maybe with some sort of tie-back. That might create some symmetry too.

Both ideas would require someone who was crafty/handy.

Tough window for window treatments ... good luck.

Not a big fan of stuffed animals but I am really digging these. I can tell just by LOOKING at them that they are S.O.F.T. I could see myself jockying one of these under my little one's sleeping head while we were driving down the road. (I wouldn't be driving, of course.)

We moved into an older home with wood floors throughout the house, with the exception of the kitchen and two baths. During a kitchen remodel we decided to redo the flooring - adding wood to the kitchen and refinishing the rest of the floors throughout the house. With some heavy arm twisting, I was coerced into installing new oak floors in both bathrooms as well. I thought the wood wouldn't wear well in the bathrooms because we were far from perfect on upkeep - especially since we have a little one who loves to splash in the tub or leave the shower curtain open while showering!

I was wrong.

Speaking as someone who had the same reservations you mentioned - be brave! Get the wood floors. You won't regret it and wood floors are far less work to maintain than you might think.

I would like to know where you got the picture for this post. Was it from a catalogue? I wouldn't mind purchasing a similar set up.

So shocked to see an entry from my obscure little hometown!

Use of outdoor space for dining or lounging? Pahoa is RAINY and HUMID - which would both be tough on any outdoor furniture. He doesn't need a ROOM to shower in, he simply needs to step outside when it rains and lather up.

Knowing the area and resources available I think this is a fantistic little entry.

I applaud the cash only/no mortgage bit.

I think there is more pun intended in the title of this entry...
