I luckily grew up in Brooklyn alongside the ocean and was exposed to a plethora of delicious seafood as a child, so I must defend my friend, the fish.

Whether it be whole or filleted, I can't think of a protein that is easier and faster to cook than fish. Not to mention it's healthier than red meat.

Why is everyone so down on fish?

I always get slowed down by:

1. Forgetting to take the butter out of the freezer and waiting for it to thaw.
2. Defrosting meat.
3. Preheating the oven.
4. Cleaning dishes--especially time consuming when the dishwasher first must be emptied out before it can be filled up again.
5. Prepping veggies.
6. Walking to the store to buy that one ingredient that I thought I had enough of.

This may be a silly question, but could I get a consistency similar to shaved ice by using an ice cream maker? It seems to me that processing water in an ice cream maker would produce "fluffy ice." Or would the result be more similar to a granita? If so, what's the difference?

OMG. Rainbow cookies! I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and one of of my most cherished childhood memories is visiting the Italian bakeries with my mother and grandmother. They would always get me the rainbow cookies because they were my favorite. I can still taste the almond-flavored cake and apricot jam. Yum!

As a web developer, I must point out something regarding the website.

While it is aesthetically pleasing, it is not at all user friendly. Each cupcake recipe is a single image!! This means (1) you can't copy and paste recipes, (2) you can't search the recipes because there is no text to search, and (3) you won't be able to find any of the recipes via search engines.

But other than that, the cupcakes look good. :-)

I would love to have a little companion running around my apartment, but I don't want to shell out the $500 fee that my apartment building requires for cats and dogs.

Does anyone have any experience with ferrets? I hear they are social and loving little critters. But I've also heard they can smell a bit musky.

I make tuna the way my mother does. She calls it her "fluffy tuna sandwich."

She uses the Italian-style tuna packed in olive oil, drains it a bit, and then flakes it in a bowl with a fork--she flakes and flakes and flakes until the tuna becomes "fluffy." Then she adds a couple of tablespoons of mayonnaise (the real stuff), a splash of vinegar or lemon juice (for a bit of acidity), a little salt and pepper, and then she spoons the mixture over soft, fresh, white bread. And there you have it: a fluffy tuna sandwich.

She sometimes adds a bit of finely minced onion for a bit of texture, too.

I agree, too! My family thinks I'm weird for eating leftovers for breakfast whether it be pasta, fish, chinese, or pizza. I find most breakfast foods to be too heavy, anyway, and cereal is just cold and boring. Gimme real food, please!

I made Drunken Beans last night for dinner using Epicurious and my new iPad. I loved it! So much easier than using my iPhone, and I especially like the little marker that you can slide up and down beside the recipe so you don't lose your place.

LoriSF: Thanks for the tip. I'll look for Borax the next time I'm at the store.

Like Scoot, I prefer to clean with my bare hands, so switching to a nontoxic solution would make sense.

Speaking of "getting up close and personal with your bathroom," my boyfriend thinks it's strange that I clean the toilet bowl with my bare hands.

Does anyone else do this beside me? I learned it from my mother. I just pour a bit of bleach in the bowl (after having flushed it a few times), and then get on my hands and knees with an old rag and scrub the whole toilet from top to bottom, inside and out, and around the base of the toilet using the bleach water. Then I flush a few times wringing out the towel and scrub again. I do this about three or four times.

The toilet always looks fantastic when I'm done. I've always avoided using wands and other tools because I feel like they don't do as thorough of a job.

Is this strange?
