I have had really great experiences on Etsy. I think you can find a lot of really unique things that for the most part, are made by honest creative folk who will go out of their way to make a special order or to ensure good customer service. My only somewhat negative transaction was recently when I something I ordered finally arrived a month after I'd paid for it, and inside was some religious propaganda. It was late and it totally annoyed me that on top of that I was being proselytized to. I have yet to leave feedback for this person because I'm not sure what to say.... as one person stated, it seems you only leave positive feedback or just don't leave feedback at all.

Wow. How much better would life be, would parenting be, if we could all just support and love each other and our parenting decisions? Most parents I know are doing their darnedest to do what's best for them and their kids as best they know how. Having someone sitting on their high horse passing judgments really isn't helpful, nor is it going to change how your friend parents.

As for showers... look, even if you're having a baby who's the same gender, only a few years apart, there are still things you need. Onesie's get stained beyond use, car seats fall below new safety standards and need to be replaced, and so on... Yes, a baby shower, isn't a celebration FOR the baby, it for the parents and that's okay. It's to show support for parents and to celebrate with them the impending arrival of a new child. And yes, even to help them a bit financially because raising a child, even a second child, is very expensive.

I think the author of this question must be a very small and unhappy person if THESE are the big important issues in life.

meh. I think it's just one more thing that adds to the stress, time crunch, and consumer waste of the season. If you like to do it and have fun with it, go for it! But if it's just become another holiday obligation, let it go! (I did!)

What about something like this as an alternative?

It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it looks fun and funky, I'd do it!

There's a lot to love on the west coast! I'd say start in northern California in the redwood forest and then drive up the coast. Lots of parks, beaches, and views. Lovely tide pooling...

I say paint the edging around the counter top white for sure, so much better. The upper cabinets look nice in white, but for the bottom ones, why not paint them a shade that is 2-3 steps darker than your walls? The flooring should definitely be the same as the dark wood in the hallway I see at the top of your photo. Not only will that make the house flow but will tie in the refrigerator as well.

Another way to hang a quilt is to sew on a few loops, 3 or 4, so it's kind of like a tab top curtain. Then you can put up a curtain rod and slide the quilt on there using the tabs you sewed on. After you're done displaying the quilt you can pick your stitches out and remove the tabs... I think the smaller punctures from a needle vs. a tack would leave less damage. That's how I hung mine anyway, hope that makes sense!

Okay, first of all those are not cute enough to justify spending more money on them. Secondly if you want your kids' bum to look cute there are lots and lots of little bloomers you can slide right over a disposable diaper. Third, in this economy I don't think there are a lot of people who are willing to shell out more money for "cute" diapers, they're poop receptacles. I think Pampers is WAY off the mark here. Instead of this, they should be spending money trying to make their product more biodegradable and eco friendly.

Not teal! I think that would make the room too one note for me personally. I'd like to see a golden yellow/khaki or a deep grey with yellow undertones. That would make the rest of your colors really stand out. And I'm for leaving the brick wall white!

Thanks for the inspiration! I actually just bought some magnetic paint to use in my kids' room, which I haven't used yet. I'm glad I spied this article before I jumped in, gives me pause to think about being more creative than a square or rectangle!

Thanks everyone for the comments and thanks Ohdeedoh!

Yolanda, my kids are the same. Snacks they eat, meals are another story which is why I try to make the snacks as well rounded and nutritional as possible! That's why I love Mama K's suggestion for healthy sprinkles, I'll have to try that one!

Ernestthedog, you're right, getting kids to eat their greens is always a challenge. How about using the cookie cutters on cucumber slices? Ants on a log with sprinkle ants? Or, maybe, make a face with salad fixings like this one: http://www.nonsuperwomanchronicles.com/memoirs_of_a_moorings/2007/10/veggie-time.html

What about building a banquette or nook where the kitchen table is now, built out far enough that the edge of the seat/bench is even with the outer edge of the column. On the other side of the column you could have shelving or small table and 2 chairs for a little intimate breakfast area, or even extend the counter out a bit and add a few barstools.
