You just saved me from spending mucho dinero on three drum shades! I have expensive taste, I guess.
As I never throw anything away (well almost nothing - much to my roommate's dismay), I have enough tapered shades to do this. I saw on another blog the instructions to create a paper drum shade, but it required the use of a harp and clear contact paper(!) - and I don't have any of those available right now!
I especially like that I will use fabric from my stash.

****To remove all the dust, after sanding, before painting - use a tack cloth. They're like sticky papertowels and work very well. I know you can get them in the paint section at a marine supply store. I use them before varnishing anything on our boat whether or not I have sanded the surface first. Lowe's or Home Depot may carry them, I don't know.

Room and Board all the way. I have this bed in our cottage in Michigan. It is a "forever" piece. I really don't have experience with West Elm furniture, so I can't compare them. But the R and B is a quality bed. Hope that helps.

Target has a very nice glass table lamp right now for $30. Try Target.com. Honestly, it looks way more expensive than $30 and more like it's from Pottery Barn.

I have seen houses made completely out of straw bales in Mexico. However, none were this nice. I am happy to see this method works up here in colder climes!

For a smaller home, your house has many stately flourishes that really come together well. I like the paint color choices, especially the kitchen cabinets. I love the crown molding. Very well done. Your hard work shows. However, just one bit of advice: please pull your backyard together. It looks neglected.

You guys scored a great apartment. Are those Nancy Drew/The Hardy Boys books in the craft area? And your bedroom is fine - there is space enough where you need it.

This site is awesome. They have a terrarium starter kit. I have it and can attest to it being a real value. I could not find charcoal anywhere else. Also, Terrain sells adorable terrarium sized plants. They are not online, but if you call them, they may ship them to you. They are located in Glen Mills, PA. Half of an hour outside Philadelphia, across the street from the Brinton Lakes shopping strip. I don't work for them! I've been to their store and I am a fan! Someone told me it is Anthropologie's plant store. Yeah, that's cool.

I like the hummingbird you have hanging by the ferns. This kitchen is full of little touches that make it yours - well done.

The chair cushions are adorable also!
