I'm normally not a fan of pink... but the colors in this room simply shine! It's really gorgeous....

It's fascinating to me that every time a celebrity or wealthy person has a room posted on this site, 50% of the posters turn green with envy and are unable to refrain from posting judgements about the room owner's lifestyle and personal values.... It's a room. That's it. It represents nothing beyond identifying the individual's aesthetics.

To me, it's a cute room. Perhaps a bit too dull and colorless for a kid's room, but nice none the less. I love ultra-modern decor, but in my opinion, it's a smidge too stark for children. Kids love color and fun.....

@Henrietta the terrible. I also misunderstood nothing. The white mommy comment is racist in itself. and it DOES imply that most of the posters are white mommies, as it also implies that when white people think they're alone, racist comments begin to pour out of our mouths.

Easy way to tell if something is biased. Change the group the statement is referring to, and see if it sounds offensive then. This one surely does.

heymisslady... Ironic that your commenting on racism while presuming almost everyone on this site is a white female and therefore racist. It seems your prejudices run just as deep as many others on this post.

I try to avoid reading off-putting posts that degrade others. That being said, I get the general idea of some of the less than polite sentiments above.

Everyone should try to keep in mind that this world is beautiful becuase there is so much diversity. NYC would be a very dull place if everyone was the same religion, race, and culture. It's our differences that make life fun.

Maybe my son's name (Eryk), a traditional Polish name, isn't for everyone, but it's right for him and our family. Similarly, more unique American names are best for other kids. A name doesn't make a person less intelligent or more prone to crime.

I will say that names DO affect employment, but that's merely becuase people have pre-conceived (and often incorrect) notions on what a person should be.

But as you can see here, it's an uphill battle to encourage people to see individuals for what they are rather than relying on stereotypes

It's unfortunate, but sometimes, people judge my son's name as if we invented an unusual spelling a classic name. we didn't. It merely is the polish spelling of a classic name. It didn't occur to us that Americans would assume we were being creative spellers. I thought it was obvious that it was a foreign spelling. I hope my son's name does not cause people to judge him more harshly.

at least the responses are unanimous. The people who buy this definitely need to consider finding a better way to spend their time than personifying their pet.

we're also in a state of constant remodeling. We are trying to save $ and DIY as much as possible. We already decided that kitchen cabinets are not worth DIY'ing... but are also beginning to realize that large tile jobs are equally obnoxious, and likely not worth it.

We reset the flagstone side stoop... that was barely worth the DIY hassle... even though we likely saved several hundred $.

yeah, hindsite is always 20/20. Generally, we find that gardening, painting, and smaller projects work well, while larger projects or things we have little experience with will be very tedious.

incincerating is still MUCH better than having diluted medications in our water. My (NY) pharmacist also said to flush it. I don't think they're informed.

(although, I must be frank, the primary source of medications in our water is from urine... everyone gets a low dose of a birth control pill with every glass of unfiltered water!)

I'm pregnant and flying across the pond in a couple weeks. I distinctly recall in the past having a beverage I purchased (after clearing security) confiscated at the gate upon boarding...

I am HOPING I can buy several large bottles of water ( I now drink A LOT every day...) once past security and bring them aboard, but I will definitely ask the employees at the gate prior to purchasing.

honestly, there is no way to ensure people are respectful of the peace desired by other diners....

I've had a couple meals made much less pleasant by young children, but we were in a diner, which IMO is an appropriate 'family' environement.

the several times our meals were absolutely ruined by other patrons in expensive restaurants it was due to the adults behavior (ex. loud, yelling, drunk table of 8 on valentines day in a 20 seat romantic restaurant). we have yet to be irritated by children in high end establishments.

I hate to say it, but I suspect it is illegal to have a restaurant open to the public where they refuse to allow children into the establishment... to me, it sounds as if it topples over the line of age discrimination.

if you flip the container over, it will have a recycle sign and a # in it. That # tells you whether it is 'safe' or not to microwave. (BPA=#7; PVC=#3.... #1, #2, and #5 are considered 'safer')

Generally speaking, clear plastic is NOT safe, and milky plastic IS. We have tupperware, but the ones made of milky plastic (#5)...

Here's a link that goes through the details...
frankly, I know all plastic will be deemed unsafe to microwave in the future... after all, all plastic components are derived from petroleum byproducts.

I use pyrex as often as I can, but I must confess, I know it will hurl itself out of our overstuffed freezer and shatter all over the tile floor... so I'm still using a lot of plastic.

funny the author begins with being bewildered about having a boy since there are almost no boys in the family....

THAT'S ME! Very few men in my family.... many women! I'm depending heavily on my husband to teach me everything about boys....

Ignorant pregnant mom-to-be here!

We're in an apartment with no clothes washer available... so cloth diapers are simply not possible for us....

I'm so happy I found this thread! I never knew there were environmentally responsible (or at least more responsible) disposable diapers.... I presumed cloth was the only option!

Now I'm going to find out what local shops sell all the brands mentioned... I hope one is remotely affordable!

first thing I thought:

great, the toddler will run up the stairs and jump off the table when mom and dad aren't looking.... Kids are crafty... surely they'll be able to open up the stairs....

to me, not safe!
