Those are great suggestions to get a neutral colour and accent with pink pillows/throws! Or even a slipcover. I must admit my first thought was that pale pink can show dirt very easily and unlike white cotton slipcovers, can't be bleached out. Will I Regret a Pink Sofa? |

Love it! Such an unusual and fresh combination of colours. I would never have thought to put them together but they look great! Nikki's "Fun and Funky" Room Room for Color Contest |

I too think that this is a bit sad for a child. It's a lovely room for an adult, but the shades of grey (perhaps it's just my monitor?) and the bars of the crib, repeated in the black and white stripes of the rug, seem penitential rather than joyful... Copeland's Colorful Nursery My Room |

I think most of these actually owe their inspiration from Japanese craft books, which have been doing "cute felt food" for quite a number of years. Although they're not in English, patterns need almost no translation if you have a basic grasp of sewing. Some of them are sooo cute as well! If you live near a Kinokuniya bookstore, you should check out the Japanese language craft section. Or try eBay. For about $25, you can get an entire book with tons of patterns! #5 actually looks a bit cluttered and claustrophobic to me -- the combination of the zebra skin rug on top of an oriental rug, then reflected back by the shiny coffee tables. Also, it feels like there are too many chairs in that room, but maybe it's just me ;) Baby It's Cold Outside: Warm & Inviting Spaces |

Oooh! Love this room! My first thought was that the tree was so cute and little. It looks like something they cut in the woods, rather than being raised in a mass-market Christmas tree lot and sheared to the "right" shape. The natural shape suits the spare style of the room. I actually use the Ikea Bjursta dining table as my desk. I like the fact that you can pull out the leaves to make it deeper if you have a monitor and when folded up, it's very small and compact. It doesn't have a drawer, though you can put a few shelves up for your keys etc. Entry Console That Doubles as Desk? Good Questions |

I agree that using another wood might be too distracting, but I can also understand wanting a change from carpet. How about Marmoleum (which is a natural linoleum)? It comes in a variety of colours and finishes and can look either very modern or traditional. Two Different Hardwoods in the Same Room? Good Questions |

Ooh! This is so, so wonderful! It doesn't look like a big space, but it's very well used. I never used to like dark siding, but it's growing on me. And the contrast with the white interior is just charming. I might be wrong, but the exterior looks like painted corrugated metal. The flow between indoor and outdoor space is very good. I've lived in Scandinavia where the cultural norm is shoes off. Part of our house is Japanese style with tatami mats and I would be so, so horrified if someone wore shoes on them... probably a Japanese cultural norm, but a knee jerk reaction nonetheless! Fortunately everyone so far who's come over automatically removes their shoes, even the American cable repair man and house inspector, whom I didn't expect to. Perhaps the fact that the house looks "foreign" to them is an automatic cue, but I was surprised at how friendly and interested they were, as in "Ooh, I saw this kind of thing in a movie. I should remove my shoes, right?" Etiquette at Home: Solutions to The Great Shoe Debate |

Good point, SherryBinNH! Part of the charm of the first picture is the field of poppies and wildflowers. Otherwise, in the wrong setting I can see it might look sad and weird, like a miniature golf course... Garden Style: Fairy Tale Sheds from Rustic Way |

This is a cute idea! You probably don't need the river rocks though for drainage, if you have so many holes. A piece of landscape fabric or old screen at the bottom would probably work better to stop the soil from washing away. Also, I was wondering whether it's ok to use Thompson's waterseal for growing vegetables? I thought it was untreated wood only, but if this is food safe, then I'd love to try it. Now, now... it's not too bad, the overall shape is pretty cute and probably maximizes livability, although I don't like the vertical and parallel wood accents and the contrasting colour on the house. I think that's the main problem for me. That said, I used to live in Tokyo where there were plenty of modern, strange buildings sandwiched in between older houses and it often worked fine. 16 Foot Wide House Maximizes Footprint |

The second iteration is much better, still, I don't know how I'd feel living with it. It's beautifully done, but the grid squares keep me subconsciously searching for a pattern, which is not so relaxing... Sara's DIY Wall Grid Tutorial House Bella |

Yes, I'm sorry -- it's a good effort but it just looks too busy and boudoir-like to be a front door. Perhaps with a different pattern and without the panels. A Colorful, Damask-Print Entry Door |
