we asked our landlord if we could remove our carpet and install hardwood floors. i did tons of research, got quotes of wood and contractors, and basically made a proposal for him. oh, and we also offered to pitch in up to $500.

to our surprise, he happily obliged and hired someone else to buy the materials and do the install. for him, he said that the main draw was our willingness to extend the lease since he likes us as tenants.

ironically, we have our pasadena apartment listed on airbnb. we've had 2 guests since posting in december and it's been great. we've made $1000 so far!

hmmm... they seem a little too "designery" and not really lived in. they seem more suitable as hotel rooms than rooms real people actually sleep in on a daily basis.

beautiful. and the fact that i can identify ikea items makes the home feel accessible and down to earth, ironically.

LA really does have the best house tours.

hd buttercup and surrounding stores in culver city. it's on the pricey side but definitely worth the visit. it's basically furniture-land.

if you go to 3rd street promenade in santa monica, you will find several of the aforementioned stores there: anthropologie, zgallerie, as well as other chains such as pottery barn and restoration hardware.

i can totally relate; we just moved two weeks ago. it took all my strength to extricate myself from the organizing madness. now, i focus on one victory per day and enjoy it for what it's worth. a few boxes per day and then i gradually move onto one or two decor items. it's hard with a full time office job plus evening commitments but life is much more manageable now.

lovely! i'm actually looking for balcony inspiration, as i've just moved to a new apartment with one. our living room is small so it makes the most sense to put some piece of furniture against the sliding door, but i refuse to because i really wanted the balcony to be a continuation of living room space.

i would love if AT did a post on balconies/porches in celebration of summer! :)
