I do things a bit differently. I was once told to put myself first and this is what i do in regards to the house. There will be a pile of dishes to do and I'll be on the couch knitting and sipping tea. I am not saying that I don't clean up, but I take time for myself before doing a job.

This may seem backwards to what most people do. Most people I know run around cleaning, then as a reward for their hard work, sit down to enjoy a good cuppa. However when ever I do that, as soon as I have my feet up after a whirlwind cleaning, the kids are all over me.

Now I take my time first, when they are first interested in a new activity, then when they finally do come to see what I am up to, they see that I am busy so leave me for another 5-10 minutes or so.

I try to tidy the living room as I go, and the kid's toys are mostly kept downstairs, but no rooms are off limits to the kids or theirs toys. THe family room is the craziest room, and we don't put things away often, but when there is a new fun activity to do, it motivates the kids to hep clean up their mess so they can partake in something new and exciting. Or we just ignore the house and go jump on the trampoline and eat popcorn for dinner!

so wonderful to hear about kids thinking about others! My five year old son designed and made lino print cards for the disaster relief in Japan, earlier this year! He managed to raise $300 that he donated to Doctors without boarders and also some to the red cross. it was his idea from the start and it was so amazing to see his vision unfold!

the Spooka from IKEA is the best .... and cheaper! We bought a few as we always forget to charge them. They are great for nightlights and fort/under blanket play!

i've already commented, but didn't have much time to really post any info! i had an amazing experience in yaletown at a restaurant called Society. It had crazy neon pink chandeliers and cozy velvet booths. We walked in and almost left right away due to the non-kid vibe, but were pleasantly surprised. They ushered us in and got a high chair (shocking that they had one!). All the staff were accommodating a great with the kids. Then after dinner the manager took us all to the back and showed us the COTTON CANDY machine! My three year old was blown away! We munched on our little sticks of cotton candy all the way back to the hotel. For the rest of the trip my son begging to go back to that restaurant!

We took the little harbour ferries from yaletown to granville island and they boys loved it. They also loved the seabus ride to north van/ quay market! We are now planning another vacation to Vancouver in August. All these comments have got me excited for it!!

i have single hooks all around the boys room and hang the nicer costumes on the wall as decorations! We are all very visual and if the costumes were tucked away, I think we'd be less inspired to dress up in them!

yes definitely giving your children small tasks that they are capable of is a great way to get things moving. we always pack our snacks together and i hand my eldest son a small bag to pack his own toys and any extra clothes he wants. it's fun(ny) to see what ends up in the bag! While he's busy getting his own things packed, I am busy getting the stroller or car packed.

In the past I've had trouble getting my son dressed before going places, so i just packed a set of clothes and changed him at our destination! It's much easier to convince a toddler to get his socks and shoes on when he sees other kids playing at the park!
